On-course delivery app

It is lunch time which makes this a perfect time to do a temperature check with my fellow golfers!

I have recently picked up golfing myself and am surprised that in today's world there are few options for getting drinks, snacks, or even extra golf balls (I learned that I can never have enough of those 😳) while you are on the course.

So I partnered with some other local techies to build a simple product to help courses provide on-course delivery and now that we have something to show I would love to hear your thoughts!

Hoping to clarify:

I am not selling anything to golfers! I do intend on selling to courses eventually, but this topic is meant to see if an app like this is something golfers would use -- or if I am the only one getting thirsty on the course and tired of "dancing" with the bevvy.

Its not a terrible idea in theory. Getting courses to execute the delivery service is a whole different story. I know where I play, they would make a mess of this.

Seems like a good idea if it were executed perfectly, but I don't really see courses biting on it. 

 

From a Head Pro or GM perspective - I'd probably ask you how this is any different than having a food/beverage cart driving around. To me this seems like it would just require the course to have to hire additional staff to make deliveries all day. Plus maybe some additional kitchen staff that could cook the "on demand" orders since the existing staff would be busy with people eating in the clubhouse. Aside from possibly a few extra dollars in food/drink sales, how do you envision the courses making enough additional money off of this to justify potential costs?

 

From a user/golfer perspective - Would you be charging me a "delivery fee" similar to Uber Eats or Door Dash? If so, I would just stock up on food/drinks before the round or at the turn.

These are both great! I really appreciate the quick feedback!

Getting the courses to execute is definitely the trickiest part, but I hope that if we can make it easy for golfers then golfers will want to make requests which in turn means more sales for courses. Then we work with courses to figure out how to keep overhead low.

 

We have no plans to charge golfers as it would ruin the benefits/experience.

For courses the benefits would be:
1. They would no longer need to send a cart in hopes that there is a golfer that wants something. Getting a request means there is a sale waiting and they could give golfers access to more options rather than what is on the bevvy.

2. If they run a cart or restaurant today then they should be able to utilize existing staff and even more efficiently in most cases if we can limit the "back-and-forth". The exception is if order volume is really high, but if there are that many orders coming through I think that might be a good "problem" to have!
 

3. We are looking at having pick up orders be an option for 19th hole or low-staff scenarios. Also a "Find the cart" mode for tournaments or other situations where there may be carts/stations available around the course.

 

From the cost justification perspective, we took a flat-rate approach instead of a percent of sales or per-request fee which means we can keep costs from getting out of control. We are a small and experienced team so our own costs are low and we can reflect that in our pricing.

Not that it matters as much, but we do enjoy the game ourselves and would rather see convenience like this be available across more courses over trying to "cash in" on a few.
