DG X7 vs. PX Rifle 7.0 vs. PX LS 7.0 vs. KBS C Taper 130

Hey Guys,

So as the title implies, I’m having a dilemma here and was wondering if some of you with similar numbers to me and naturally hit a high spinny ball have had any luck with the shafts I have listed in the title.

Long story short, I went to get fit at club champion for my first real fitting ever and was fit into a KBS $ Taper 130.  I asked about all the shafts above in the title and they had none of them in their shops to test. The guy who I worked with at CC said that generally speaking…people that come in don’t have the speed for them…which I do understand but it put me in a situation where I didn’t want to pull the trigger on something I hadn’t hit yet, so I chose to go with the shaft I had hit since it did give me good numbers and dispersion, despite the fact they were flying a bit higher than I’d like.

Once I got them on the course, I quickly found they were WAY too high for my liking.  Almost unplayable at times.  Though I naturally do hit a high ball, I know I can still bring my flight down with some better technique, but these just aren’t going to do it for me.

I gamed x100’s prior to these current $tapers and the height compared to the $tapers was similar but I spun the crap out of x100’s and was losing a ton of distance (think so much spin that I was backing up a 5 iron regularly)

I have hit the X7 in a 6 iron and while it felt good and the flight was definitely coming out a little flatter than my $Tapers and X100’s before that, they were still pretty high flights but the spin seemed a little better.

A little about my game:

4 index

125+ SS driver

105 SS 6 iron (average attack angle of about 5 deg down)

moderate swing tempo

Thanks for taking the time to read this guys and again if you have similar numbers to myself and have hit any of the shafts in the title, please let me know your take!  Also, I’m more than willing to entertain other shaft options that I may not have even known about.  Cheers!

If DG X7 feels good for you, take them and bend lofts stronger.
Loft is loft no matter where it comes from, so the shaft should NOT be chosen to tweak ball flight, the shaft is for your swing, heads and lofts is for ball flight.

Thanks for the responses, all things to consider.  I also know I have some minor path and attack issues that contribute to my flight and spin…which I’m currently working on.

I play a Pro V1 and more Recently the Pro V1 left dot.

My irons are Miura TC-201’s.

Just trying to mainly see if any of the shafts I have mentioned have done anything good for naturally fast, spinny, high launch players.

Thanks again!

The ProV1's in general are high spin off irons/wedges.  You might try a different brand in a design that is not stated to be their higher spin premium ball

I was told by a rep at a ball fitting that the Pro V1 left dot was the lowest spinning, lowest flying premium ball in the Titleist line followed by the regular prov1 (when talking Pro V line of balls) Also that the Pro V1X was the higher spinning, higher launching and the left dash was the higher launch but lower spin than the regular Pro V1X.  🤔

I won a box of Chrome Soft X LS recently that I’m yet to hit and heard they’re a good ball too, similar to the left dash.

Again, I’ve mentioned some path and attack issues that I’m sorting out…hopefully that’s the main culprit.  I really am digging the left dot overall though…

Ill be honest, if you are working on things (which it sounds like you need to, and its great that you are working on them)......I wouldnt do a darn thing until I had my swing where I want it...

You could go through these lessons and/or swing changes and then be posting a new thread called "Help I need more launch from my iron shafts" lol

That is some serious club speed, but if you are backing up 5 irons I would address the swing

I agree 💯.   I am currently working on some path and attack issues but just figured I’d show my trackman numbers to show you I wasn’t exaggerating about spin issues.  Numbers are from a MP5 6 iron with DG X100 and G410 LST 9* driver with small batch HZRDUS smoke green 70 6.5 tx.  As you can tell I’m very much an out to in player currently with junk smash factor.  So once I can figure out my path I’m pretty confident those spin and flight numbers will be considerably better.

Man, you gotta be giving up 20+ yards with all that spin on the driver.  What is your driver set up.

Thats a lot of spin seeing as you wanna be between 1800 -2500 with the driver. Surprised they didn't put you in C-Tapers if $ Tapers were launching high. X7s, CTaper 130x and PX 7.0

I asked about them all at CC but they didn’t carry them.  In my naivety I went with what “worked” in the fitting because I had actually hit it.  Once I got on the course I realized it was a bad move.

Miss a big wipe cut? Looks like your a bit over the top, which is adding a TON of spin.

Yep, inside then a bit over. Slight adjustment to take away and path could greatly reduce your spin issues

Yep….big wipe cut indeed.  I’ve basically “bandaided” my way down to a 4 index with this since I’ve been able to make it work for me but if I truly want to get scratch and beyond I know I’m going to have to work on my path and face issues…which undoubtedly will improve my spin issues.  Never had a lesson but I have a couple folks in mind that I’m looking to go to.

This is a drill I like for path, take it slow and hit some 70% effort swings.

With that club speed, from the inside, you'd add 30 yards EASY not to mention be more consistent
