Cally vs PXG

I know this question gets asked a lot and yes i did a search and have read most of the threads I can find on these heads.   Been making some swing changes and am seeing that I struggle a little getting enough carry from my driver.  I expected this as I work the swing changes because I am not swinging as fast while ingraining the new swing path etc.

I'm looking to go up in loft a little just to get a little extra carry until my changes take hold.  THere are some good deals out there to be had but I've kind of settled into a Cally Epic Speed @ 10.5 (I can always loft down if I need to).   Of course now I see that PXG has dropped prices again so it has me wondering....I had the 0211 and liked it well enough but am considering the Gen 4X in 10.5.

Does anybody have any comparisons or am I really splitting hairs as both heads are good and performance is likely to be similar.

For reference my current driver is the 2016 M2 Tour Issue 8.5 that I had been turning the loft up on.   Thanks!

I have hit the Epic Speed and the 0211. From my experience the Speed spun more than the 0211. I liked the feel of the Speed more but the results were surprisingly better with the 0211. With that being said, I was hitting 2 similar shafts but was not properly fit into both.  Have you tried a higher launching shaft in the M2? Not to turn you off from a new driver but a different shaft for your new swing might be key.

I haven't actually, been hitting the Rogue Silver 70 for like 4 years and up until the swing changes it was a great shaft for me at least judging by the results.   Its crazy, I'm hitting my irons better than ever but my driver (which had been my strength) is just a liability LOL.

I understand that haha! My game dramatically increased just from playing more in the past year. Irons are pretty consistent, where I tee off with a 2 iron quite frequently because of my driver yips. My SS has increased as well so I have been tinkering all year with shafts. I would honestly try the shaft first. If you do crave a new driver and do not want to go through a fitting, I would find out your swing speed, look for a higher launching shaft, give that a whirl. 2016 M2 is a great driver BTW!

Yeah up until recently it had been the best driver I’ve owned in terms of consistency.  Fitting in VT at this time of year is really not an option.  All the demo days are done, the one shop is gearing up for ski season so it’ll be hit or miss.  I may just wait until next year to do anything.  We have maybe 2-3 weeks left in the season.

I have been hitting the epic for the past 3-4 years and went and got fitted for a full set of PXG Tuesday. The feel of the Gen 4 0811 is by far one of the better feeling drivers I have ever felt. Couple that with the correct shaft for me and I was getting better launch and spin and as a result consistency on my drives (distance and trajectory). Bought it that day it was that good. Might not help but just my experience between the epic and the 0811.

What shaft did you go with in the Gen 4?  I struggle with their stock offerings, I had the Smoke Yellow and it was decent in the 0211.

Was actually a big fan of the Aldila NV Green 65 gram. Was a little loose in dispersion for me but some of my carry’s were in the 290 at time which was extremely good for me.

I ended up with the fujikura ventus black. It felt unreal. I have also played the smoke and I have that on my 3 wood now, but that ventus just feels awesome.

Also something to note, It seems that other manufacturers are way behind on orders. PXG (if you believe their marketing) planned ahead and got stocks before pandemic supply chain issues. I can now attest to it. I got fitted Tuesday, my clubs were built and shipped by Friday, and Fedex is delivering them today (Monday). very impressed with turnaround.

Ive kinda been keeping my eye on the PXG site for the latest Gen 4 price drop.  The Epic Speed is in stock with Cally preowned too.
