9 to 3 swings - question

Hi - I'm assuming that when practicing with shorter 9 to 3 style swings, that keeping your pressure left is preferable? With my full swing i'm trying to shift initially then re-center early but obviously hard to do with shorter swings? Does this lack of pressure shift cause any issues when trying to us P3 swings to ingrain a move? Thoughts ?

Jusy my two cents - but yes, when doing 9-3 swings, I always think of the 'end of the backswing' as P5 and not P3 (if that makes sense); I'm practising the hitting zone and not the takeaway per se... the fun comes from connecting the 9-3 swings to full ones; where lots of Ams (me included) gets out of sync - sequence issues

the shorter the swing the more pressure on your lead side 

 

though if you play the ball back in your stance ... I would guard against having to much pressure on your lead side

If you play the ball back square the club face and turn your left hand a little to the right.

 

Since you're picking up the ball earlier in the arc you'll hit everything right with an open clubface unless you adjust your left hand grip.

The more the movement in the golf swing , the greater the chance for errors.And  the greater the chance for errors the more compensations are required

The purpose of Short irons and even shorter swings is precision. If you set up with weight on your front foot , you eliminate the need for movement to your front foot in the downswing. This will result in fewer chances of errors and more precision.

I’m 60/40 lead side pressure with shorter 9➡️3 swings

Pressure shifts in pretty much all swings.   A matter of degrees with more shift in full swings and less in short game.

Been measured.    The direction the pressure shifts is important.      Pressure moving and staying towards toes can be problematic.

My take:

 

With swings of that size I think the right hip should push slightly back and out of the way to make room on backswing.  Then left hip on through swing.

 

It's pushing the hip back slightly, which creates moderate pressure first in right foot, then in left.  Not really a weight shift....

My 2 cents on the 9 to 3. It's good for chipping and putting but once the shoulders turn you aren't on the static address plane anymore. So the 9 to 3 should be more like a 4 to 10.
