If people are ashamed to play a Maltby head... then I don't know what to say. If you hit ANY of the new offerings against ANY AND I MEAN ANY OEM head you will give away nothing in performance.

The old argument is that if you buy a $500 set of Maltby irons then the resale is really low. BUT.. if you buy a $1400 OEM set they depreciate at the same rate just on a different scale, sometimes worse... so you still have spent Way less money.

Most people who try a Matby iron make them their next purchase. Few if any Maltby player I have ever met will hide the fact that thier heads say Maltby. If people can't understand the value and quality of a Maltby head then it's their loss.

I take money on the course from people with fancy OEM gear on a very regular basis.

I'm also the only player out of 66 people in my simulator league who plays at a plus cap. Matby irons do just fine being stamped Maltby.

You didn't understand my post.  I've had a Golf Works trade account for 20 years so I know a thing or two about their head offerings.  I never said anything about someone being ashamed of playing a Maltby head but rather if they were left unbranded and put on the shelves at a golf store would they sell better.

I personally haven't liked the shape of their iron heads and wedge heads over the years so I've never had them in the bag but I have sold quite a few sets.  My experience isn't the same as yours as far as most people that try them buy them but I've had a couple loyal Maltby customers over the years.

Britt included more information regarding the TS4's construction, including "There is internal tungsten as well as another material.  It is not injected and it is not a a hollow two piece construction."

From: https://ralphmaltby.com/questions/question/ts4-manufacture-and-cost-estimate/

Can't wait to try these out.

How accurate are their playability ratings?  On their website, it says the Cally Apex Pro 21 6 iron is more forgiving than the regular Apex 21 6 iron model..  that doesn’t sound right.

The lower CG of the Pro offsets the larger "C" dimension and slightly higher MOI of the Apex.  The playability is essentially the same.  Callaway markets the Apex as easier to hit than the Pro, but the measurements don't really support that assertion.

Tools not jewels.  Rust does not enhance performance.

Taylormade says otherwise, at least for wedges.

With chrome wedges, the data showed an approximate 50% reduction in spin on wet shots. With raw, there was only about a 25% reduction – showcasing a significant improvement.

In addition, testing showed that chrome-plated wedge shots could experience a 6°-8° increase in launch going from dry to wet, while a raw face would only result in a 2°-3° increase.

The other site, has done a huge study on this…. Rust is merely a look thing.

You are correct, I apologize.  It's not the raw that helps spin, it's the lack of plating in most cases.  Plating can "shallow the groove and soften the edge radii".  (source: other site 2019 most wanted wedge)

I'd definitely be interested in shafting up one of the TS4 blades when they come out.  Wonder what the price point per head will be, would be nice if they are in the $30-40 range like the other simple forged heads, although that prototype looks like it has a CNC milled sole which could raise the price a touch.

Still excitedly waiting for the next bit of info to drop on the new TS3 & TS4.  I realize all of the TS irons have game improvement factors, but in terms of playability from hardest to hit, to easiest, I'm thinking...  Am I on point here?

- TS4 = Hardest

- TS1

- TS3

- TS2 = Easiest

A March 28th update from Golfworks that appeared in their forum:

TS3’s are moving along.  Waiting on first complete set metal pre-production samples.  Hopefully have those soon.  From there, if approved, we would move to production and then would have more solid availability date.  Late this year is is our hope.

On the TS4’s, I made some design changes from the original #6 iron metal samples.  A little tweak in a couple of places I had to make to get to the target specs I want.  Probably delayed us a few months.  Looking more like a 2023 release on the TS4, but if there are no more changes, we might make late this year.
