Your 58* or 60* wedge, what bounce do you have?

Played a 60.04 T grind for the past 2 years. Bought a 60.10S for next year, just because I wanted a wedge that always works no matter the conditions.

 

The issue was the T grind was absolute money unless it just rained. When the ground got soft it became very difficult to play.

I (recently) got new Miura wedges. My 52* is (relatively) low bounce, but my 58* is their new "High Bounce". Ancer helped them develop it. It is actually a very subtle, versatile club. Can't really say it is low or high bounce - an 8 or 10 or 14. Because it is all of them. Both the bounce and the sole vary from heel to toe (narrow/low at the heel, wider/higher at the toe). I've truthfully never played a wedge that well thought out. Depending on grip (strong or weak), stance (forward or back), swing (upright or flatter, expose a lot of bounce or a little), address (open or closed), and turf (coarse sand/soft sand, soft grass or tight fairway) that one club is somehow 10 different clubs. 

 

I feel like I'm doing a promo here, but I do not think I've ever gamed a wedge so perfectly designed. I'm usually an "it's not the arrow, it's the Indian" kind of guy, but I've had these wedges for over a month now, and I am still discovering everything they allow me to do. 

 

This club is actually stretching how I think about my short game (how many clubs have done that to you?) I get that conventional wisdom is that you always want to catch the ball with the exact center of the club. I'm pretty good at that (have old wedges where the grooves are worn out in the center). But with these, I find myself actually deliberately hitting slightly towards the heel or toe, depending on the shot I'm trying to pull off. 

 

The OP question, (IMO) could actually use some adjustment. The "bounce", as stated on the club (e.g., "Vokey 56* 14F") is just a kind of starting point. Truth is wedges are all about feel. You can make any wedge (not just Miuras) do a 40' shot with a 40' apex, or a 10' apex stop/two bounce release with the swing and setup. 

 

So in my thinking, the relevant question is not really what the bounce is as is says on the club or the stats on a website, but more about the versatility of the subtleties of the clubhead.

 

With my long irons, I have three shots I practice - fairly straight, slight draw and slight fade. With wedges, I want about a dozen very different shots with a single club.

Vokey 58° S grind 10° bounce. Plays well for me in slightly firm sand as well as the fluffier stuff. I only use it from 40ish yards and in.

I do something different than most (it seems), my 54* has the lower bounce. My 58* is 14* bounce.

Extremely versatile wedge, from a wide range of lies and bunkers. One of the best wedges I have had in play.

54 - RTX Mid at 10* bounce

58 - RTX Low at 6* bounce 

 

I don’t hardly take a divot so don’t need a ton of bounce. Find the 54 is my work horse wedge for most shots unless it’s rock hard fairways/bunkers or im short sides in bunkers.
