Brooks, Paul Casey, and Jason Day are some of my current favorites. All 3 don't have a club sponsor ATM. Seems like a lot of equipment free agents on tour play Mizuno irons. I'm pretty sure Brooks used Mizuno irons in all 4 of his major wins. I love seeing these mixed bags, clearly it's the Indian not the arrow.

Yep I remembered that and liked it too--- Looked like he had put that set together from a Salvation Army. Like you said it was extreme left field but oviously it worked for him. I remember one of our fellow WRXers remarked " It looks like something you would see on a weekend at a local muni"

I need to see photos of this golf bag!

Back in the day I was always a fan of this bag, too. Not quite as much of a mishmash as his more recent set-ups, but seven brands in play and haphazardly-applied lead tape will always be cool in my book.

Scheffler and Piercy are probably the two current players whose bags tickle my fancy the most.

DJ 2012.  I'm still gaming the MB 2011 and my RBZ fairway woods. Just recently upgraded my R11S driver to the 2017 M1 440.  Never a fan of the ZTP wedges.

I agree.  A fantastically individual bag. The irons were twenty years old at the time, and the fairway woods were even older, I think. Possibly from the 1940s?

Not the best photo, as it's an iPhone through glass. These are the clubs of Miller's that are on display in St Augustine. These look to be a later set of his, possibly the ones with the shaved hosels and the raw finish with which he ran rampant in the mid '70s.

Miller1973HOFa.png

JM lamenting getting rid of those…

In 1974, I got a set of old Tommy Armour irons with no chrome on them. These dull-gray clubs had a soft feel to them that was just exquisite. The irons were 25 years old, but after I sawed down the hosels and added some lead tape here and there, they were like magic. I got on the hottest streak of my career. I won eight times on the PGA Tour in 1974, knocking down flags every week. The following year I signed an equipment contract and had to put the Tommy Armours in the garage. Big mistake. No matter what I did, I couldn't make the new clubs perform like the old ones. If you've got a set of irons you really like, think twice before switching to a new set. There are a lot of great new irons out there, and you might fall in love with how well you hit them on demo day. But when you get on the course and face funny lies and try to hit shots, like a high draw or a low fade, you might find they're completely different.

As for bags, the GOAT is Doug Sanders…

when your bag matches your outfit on the day, you win..

The vokey wedges with the rust were the best. A lot has been said about Rory's mediocre wedge play in recent years, but in 2012 (his last year with Titleist) Rory was 25th on tour in approaches from 100-125 and 5th in approaches from 125-150. Maybe he needs to go back to the vokey wedges.

Late 80s Norman.

Iconic big red Spalding bag. 'Shark' engraved Tour Editions. MacGregor wedges. An M43 and a Toney Penna, both under Jan Craigs. Pro Only All Cords put on backwards years before putting grips on backwards was a thing. Clubs stacked up along one side of the bag. Collectively, it's a set-up that's cooler than this dog...

I always liked KJ Choi and YE Yang bags with all the hybrids. I never liked hitting my 5 iron but was always unsure about a 5 hybrid (male pride huh! 🙂 ) so to see 2 tour players (recent winning players at that) carrying a bag stacked with hybrids I thought was great. Didn't Choi have a 6 hybrid at one point, longest iron was a 7 iron. Same when Michelle Wie put in the 9 & 11 woods, given she had been playing a bladed 5 iron usually, was good to see people just playing what works best

Still a proper set of tools with a personal touch to them, not a modern off the shelf Titleist or Callaway set-up that could be any one of a dozen players' clubs at first glance.

No close-up shot, sadly, but Nick Price's bag during his great duel at Lytham with Seve was another favourite of mine. Two Toney Penna woods, the driver with a black finish, the spoon with a light finish, a Wilson 1200 1-iron, Spalding Tour Edition Custom Crafted irons with a slab of 1" lead tape across the back, a plain old Eye 2 pitching wedge and a ground and lead-taped Cleveland 485 sand wedge, all capped off with a trusty old Bullseye putter. Proper clubs. 🇿🇼

Brilliant. I love all the WITB pictures we get here most weeks but what I really want to see are the bags from the 60-80s, guys like Price, Langer, Seve, Faldo, Trevino etc

Why/how did Norman put a grip on backwards? What does backwards mean?

Logo under on a round grip. According to Norman, first did so because liked the look sans logo from address, subsequently found that drew attention to grip type/model during broadcasts. Ever the marketer, he used same to his advantage as an endorsement opportunity.

At one time, those were all on forum posted by a great member that no longer participates due to a “copyright issue” over sourcing of images..quite a shame.

I always liked the look of this bag too. Will Mackenzie. You won't catch me without some carefully chosen headcovers, but the rest of the bag looks like something I'd have in play.
