The most recent one that comes to mind is Harry Higgs.  Love all the beat up clubs, work down grips ect.  Looks like the bag of somebody who would show up and take everybody's money. Plus he has good taste in irons.

I agree.  A fantastically individual bag. The irons were twenty years old at the time, and the fairway woods were even older, I think. Possibly from the 1940s?

Does anyone know the rough timeline/era  for Johnny Miller endorsing Mizuno irons?

I’m contemplating these “Johnny Miller The Professional” Mizuno irons! Thanks

Late 80s Norman.

Iconic big red Spalding bag. 'Shark' engraved Tour Editions. MacGregor wedges. An M43 and a Toney Penna, both under Jan Craigs. Pro Only All Cords put on backwards years before putting grips on backwards was a thing. Clubs stacked up along one side of the bag. Collectively, it's a set-up that's cooler than this dog...

Old school 3 way only bag that is why all the clubs are to one side in the pic--- On the 2 mini staff bags I use I have the center divider that made them a 6 way out--- I like it that way my old Jones Classic is only 3 way too

I see these pop up a bit on auction sites, and have seen half sets in recycling shops more than once. I haven't been able to find out much about them, but they do look a lot like the MS-10 irons, which came out in 1986 and were aimed at older golfer (lots of weight down low to elevate the ball), just with different stampings.

1550723536_MizunoMS-10back.png.0e208594b97ae34e0f2f0472319076a0.png

May the same club with different stampings? Without comparing them side-by-side and in-hand, I can't be certain.

Back in the day I was always a fan of this bag, too. Not quite as much of a mishmash as his more recent set-ups, but seven brands in play and haphazardly-applied lead tape will always be cool in my book.

Langer 1993.png

Was that Langer's bag when he won his second Masters?

And is he bagging two different 1-irons?

No love for Billy Horschel’s current set up? Those irons are amazingly crazy. Soles ground down so much that new numbers need to be stamped on them and with a greater supply of lead than most material shops in the UK at the moment.

Langer's 1993 bag, indeed. And the second 1-iron is a 4-iron with a worn sole. 🙂

Worn or ground down? Is it an Apex 4i? I can't make out the stamping, but it looks different from the Staffs (FG-17s?). Such a great setup. I particularly love the persimmon driver (last persimmon driver to win a major, I think) combined with the metal Raylor.

And the EYE2 1-iron...just such a fantastic bag.

JM lamenting getting rid of those…

In 1974, I got a set of old Tommy Armour irons with no chrome on them. These dull-gray clubs had a soft feel to them that was just exquisite. The irons were 25 years old, but after I sawed down the hosels and added some lead tape here and there, they were like magic. I got on the hottest streak of my career. I won eight times on the PGA Tour in 1974, knocking down flags every week. The following year I signed an equipment contract and had to put the Tommy Armours in the garage. Big mistake. No matter what I did, I couldn't make the new clubs perform like the old ones. If you've got a set of irons you really like, think twice before switching to a new set. There are a lot of great new irons out there, and you might fall in love with how well you hit them on demo day. But when you get on the course and face funny lies and try to hit shots, like a high draw or a low fade, you might find they're completely different.

An old thread in classic golfers here noted the 2--7 were 915T irons, 8-W were the TC shown above.

Geoff Ogilvy’s witb from his US Open win has always been one of my favorites.

He was the reason I searched out the Cobra Pro CB's I still play.  I think they are from the era when Acushnet (Titleist) owned Cobra.  Super soft but solid irons.

Another old one, but this bag of Brandt Jobe's always looked good to me. I always liked the utilitarian look of raw irons, and a nicely mixed bag.

This was a great time for cobra. With JB Holmes, Camilo Villegas

Holy crap, LOL, he's using Rifle 7.0s in his irons?! I had to look up the closest swing speed numbers for Ogilvy to his US Open win: 2007 he averaged 116mph. I think a lot of the old school guys liked the heavier shaft weight.

A bag of left-handed junk.
