Clubs were stolen - how would you rebuild your bag?

Bummer OP!  Some bad juju karma is coming someone's way for sure!!

Is it specifically for your golf clubs?  Or just 'personal contents'?  Very curious because I've never heard of this before.

The rider is specific to my clubs, bag, and contents. Basically I gave my agent a list of everything that's typically in my bag along with ~$ values. Ex. Ping G425 driver w Ventus shaft $600, Scotty Cameron putter $400, Bushnell rangefinder $300, Sun Mountain C130 bag $250, etc.

Wanted to say thanks for all the comments.

I think I'm going with option 3 - replace the irons basically as they were (with probably an updated version of the Z7/Z5 series), get updated wedges of the same ilk (Zipcores I guess), same putter...and then rework the top end of the bag with hybrid/fairway/driver fitting - I feel like my gaping wasn't great.

Are the 765/785 Srixon irons good?  It seems to me like the 765s weren't quite as beloved as the 745s...and now everyone seems to think the ZX7s are amazing so I'm not sure what to think about the 785s...I don't know if I want to pony up for the ZX7s or not.

Today is my 71st birthday, so your age might be a consideration...

If you're a 30-something or 40-something, replacing your bag with slightly used or clearance versions of clubs lost probably will work.

If you're 60ish, you might get a base fitting make sure things two-year old specs still work for you. Past age 60, I often find that last summer's hot 3W suddenly doesn't launch very well in post-Easter warm-ups.

And, this decade Golf Digest ran a short article on shaft flex: it said that at age 53, male golfers should re-evaluate whether to keep stiff shafts, or move back to regular. (It was in GD, so it must be true! 🙄)

What's In The Bag (As of April 2023, post-MAX change + new putter)

Driver:  Tour Edge EXS 10.5° (base loft); weights neutral   ||  FWs:  Calla Rogue 4W + 7W

Hybrid:  Calla Big Bertha OS 4H at 22°  ||  Irons:  Calla Mavrik MAX 5i-PW

Wedges*:  Calla MD3: 48°... MD4: 54°, 58° ||  PutterΨSeeMore FGP + SuperStroke 1.0PT, 33" shaft

Ball: 1. Srixon Q-Star Tour / 2. Calla SuperHot (Orange preferred)  ||  Bag: Sun Mountain Three 5 stand bag

    * MD4 54°/10 S-Grind replaced MD3 54°/12 W-Grind.

     Ψ  Backups:

  • Ping Sigma G Tyne (face-balanced) + Evnroll Gravity Grip |
  • Slotline Inertial SL-583F w/ SuperStroke 2.MidSlim (50 gr. weight removed) |

Well, that sucks. Hopefully insurance would cover you.

I would actually replace everything as is.

The only exception would be the putter since the model I'm playing right now isn't available anymore. For that I'd probably get a Carbon custom that matches the specs of what I've got now.

This may be a stupid question but when would insurance cover this and when would it not without any sort of rider on your policy?

just food for thought going forward -- if you aren't using them ie within the confines of your home for self defense -- perhaps in an actual safe within the home is a better idea.

Just food for thought….it’s kinda hard to carry a firearm in for a repair if its just sitting in a safe in your house.

....you take it out of your safe...that's in your house...when you're ready to repair it, or take it to be repaired.

It really depends on your policy.

In addition to my house policy my Golf Canada membership also has club insurance with it. I hope to never have to use it, but it's there if I need it.

I did the calculation for what a full replacement would be if my clubs got lost/stolen when travelling and it wasn't a small number so having insurance isn't a bad thing.

Sounds like what he was doing.

Also, how does one with a CCW permit carry their gun? Bring the safe with them in the car?

You can always tell the guy who doesn’t know jackshit about firearms but likes to interject themselves into discussions when firearms are brought up.

I think I'd take the opportunity to try something new, especially since it is getting harder and harder to find my irons and putter in the same condition mine are in.  Hypothetically I would go:

Ping G425 Max driver and 3 wood

Titleist T200 3 Iron

Titleist T100S 4-W

SM8 Wedges

And for the putter I would mess around with whatever Ping/Odyssey/Scotty that fit my eye, though I'd be tempted to try a boutique custom built how I wanted it

Titleist TSI3 10.0*
Titleist TSI1 15*

Titleist TS2 18*
Titleist T100S Black 4-PM
Vokey SM8 48F

Vokey SM8 54F
Vokey SM9 60T
Ping Anser 2D

#1 Sorry your clubs got stolen! Maybe check ebay, F#ceBook marketplace, and a few local Pawn shops you might be able to find them easier than you think.

#2 As a rule of thumb I'd say get as close as possible to what you had and them improve those as you go. In my experience when I haven't done that I've felt the frustration much longer.

All the best
