Ping i210 Discontinued Effective Yesterday

Foreleft

Recommended Posts

Boy, I put these back in the bag today, and they really are so good.  I have matching sets of G425 and i210 with Steelfiber i110.  Tend to play the G425 for the forgiveness, and I did have one round where the i210 were punishing for my less than stellar strikes.  But more often than not, the i210 perform as well or better than the G425, while looking better and feeling better.

Happy to close out this season with the i210 primarily in the bag, and no question the i210 will be in the pole position to be in my bag at the start of next season.  So good with the Steelfibers.

I don't play Ping irons, and for some reason actually never have, but the gap that they are leaving right now seems very wide to me. The i210s that were both budget-friendly and apparently very high performers are gone, replaced only partially by an extremely expensive and presumably "not as easy to hit" i59 - with no i210 replacement for another 5-6 months?

Thankfully Ping is a privately-held company, and they will do fine in the long run and I'm sure they are doing everything they can for their employees during this time. But from all the threads I see they really seem to be missing the mark (in terms of inventory and strategy) vs. most other OEMs during covid times. I realize other OEMs have major challenges as well, but from what I see around GolfWRX it seems like Ping is lagging behind more than most.

P.S I like Ping. I LOVE Ping hybrids, and have owned and played every generation since the G25. I do not have an axe to grind with Ping whatsoever, and I wish them the very best!

I am looking forward to the i210's successor.

I have loved the i200, but have waited to upgrade....will the next gen be out in 2022?

Was surprised to see this when I went to Carl's and the i210 demos were pulled. Guy there said the replacement would be in July 2022 which lines up with what was said in the i210 replacement rumor thread.

Spring - i525 & ?

Summer - i230 & ?

Viktor Hovland sure likes them, maybe he'll ask Ping to put some heads aside for him.

Honestly, what the people should have been asking him after his win is:

'What do you think about the fact that Ping hasn't released anything to the public about the replacement name or time frame of the i210s?'

'How does this make you feel?'

'Does this make you think less about Ping?'

'Are you going to change brands because the i210s aren't actually that good an iron according to some people?'...'

Heard from a ping pro that the i230 will be released in March.  That will be the replacement not the 525.

Will be a huge seller if they can get them distributed in a reasonable time.

I think you could add the i5 and the i20 to this list.

Blueprint has to be on that list.  More ping staffers jumped to that iron than any other I can recall since s55.  And non  ping staffers too.

He does.  After they reworked the soles to unrecognizable state to suit him.  I’m sure they’ve built him some backups.   And or will grind some i59 to suit him in the future.  He already  tried them and went back to his one off set of i210.

No different than what Titleist is doing for JT and old man Adam.  We all know what they have in their hands is built to them, with tweaks.  But having complete CNC irons built to you is a bit more than just grinding some soles.

The difference is larger though really. They took the i210 and made it playable for a guy who obviously doesn’t like a round leading edge and max bounce.  Many of us would play that iron if we could buy that.  See my bag. I played ping before this. Until I wore that set out.   And would go back to blueprint if I could get a new set. . My set had Wrx Leading  edge grind . But in the interim t100 satisfied the turf interaction wants and was available.

im not disputing tour guys getting custom stuff. What I’m saying is claiming that hovland  loves  the i210 is like saying that Cummins dodge truck buyers love dodge trucks.  Take the Cummins engine away and see how many still buy dodge.  Leas than half I’d guess.

if hovland has to play it like we would , I doubt he stays with i210.  Those soles are so different the numbers are gone and restamped. .

Hoping to snag a decent used set of 210s but the prices are still up there. Could nearly get a new set of zx7 for the same price.

Yeah, some (maybe most) of the used club sites are straight up gouging.  $1300+ for a used set up here on some is quite pathetic...  Obviously other options, but still not cool to see, more so when they give pennies for trade ins...

Glad I got my 3-UW when I did. Fantastic irons and the first set of irons I’ve had that have lasted two seasons. No plan on replacing them.

This is correct, he played that ground set for 1 event maybe 2 and plays a standard sole set as his gamers week in week out.
