Miura MB-101

Recommended Posts

I play golf for sheer enjoyment (read leisurely not competitively) and shoot in the 80s (hoping to break 80 some day) and enjoy hitting irons the most. I think feeling of a pured iron shot is one of the beautiful things in life that one can experience.

I've had Mizuno MP-60 [2-PW] for 10-12 years. I bought them from a pre-owned bin and have loved them since then. In fact my iron play started improving only after I got MP-60s. But recently, I decided to splurge and get a set of Miura blades and possibly pass the MP-60s down to my teenager.

Miura MB-101 [1-PW, GW, SW, LW] arrived and I have only had two 1.5 hour long range sessions but I am super impressed by how solid they feel, the distance consistency and the looks. Simply exquisite in every possible way. Very crisp sound on well struck hits. I feel lucky to even own these. Top notch craftsmanship and quality. I think these will be my clubs for the rest of my days 🙂.

We have a couple of fine Japanese knives in our kitchen and the feeling of these Miuras is no different. Just as the knives are superior in both their beauty  and function, these Miuras are beautiful and they perform.

Also shout out to Will at @Peoples Golf for the fine custom work.

I have a set of MB-101's I'll be assembling for a good friend of mine. These will be his his back-up set to his MB-001's. Miura's are amazing. Each and every model will suit somebody's game!

Great post. I think I could use a putter for 10-15 years, but irons would be tough for me cause there’s so much temp station, but I think if anything could do it, it’s a set of Japanese blades.

I think I speak for everyone when I say we need to see pictures of the entire set, I also personally need to see pictures of that one iron butter knife. Thank you. 😆

On the subject of "one iron butter knife"  ... I have to say that I always read and heard things like no one can hit a 1-iron or the only purpose of a 1-iron is to hold it in a thunderstorm because even god can't strike one etc. and I was totally prepared to embarrass  myself but I have to say its no different than a 3-iron or a 2-iron, which I enjoy hitting the most. I am really really liking the Miura 1-iron.

Along the same lines, the notion that we need "forgiveness" in our clubs and that no one not named Tiger or Mickelson should play blades or muscle backs is non-sense, in my opinion. I am not playing golf to make a living, so might as well enjoy the feeling of a well hit blade. As an amateur my brain registers the nice shots that I hit and forgets the bad ones. I can still remember vividly some of my best drives or iron shots from 10-15 years ago. Thats what keeps me coming back. Hitting blades is a joy!

Well ... thanks a lot 🙂

Means even more coming from a self proclaimed Miura nut 🙂

They are wonderful in every way possible and I feel very fortunate to have them.

Played my first round with these and I am over the moon. With the driver and putter, I could only play 12 of the 13 Miuras for the round, so I decided to drop 56 degree wedge for the round. Killed it with the 1 iron into strong wind on 4 holes, so the decision to not play 56 degree was correct. Having 56 would have been beneficial on one hole.

Overall very pleased with the consistency and solid feel of these irons. I could not be happier. What a joy !

@coloradogolf Your Miura irons = gorgeous  enough to consider iron head covers?

 I could not find specs for 1-iron on miuragolf.com and also could not get an answer from Torque Golf. But based on rest of MB-101 specs 1-iron loft is most likely 15°.

If there were ever a set of irons deserving of such royal treatment it would be these 🙂
However they are, as you said,
"Tools, not Jewels" so I am OK with the scratches and imperfections they develop over the years.

They will grow old with me.

LOL ... no not all ...  I do not feel like Mr. Hogan at all even when I pure it 🙂 (and I am not even pretending to feel like him) -  although I do understand why he was fond of his 1-iron. I lived in Fort Worth for 20 years and have a lot of respect for his work ethic. Imagine if he did not go to war for 5 years or have his accident - how many more majors he might have won.

Yesterday I was enjoying hitting this 1-iron alone at the range till dark. I can hit it well most of the time, once in a while I catch one pure and that is the best feeling. When I get tired I do duff or sh%^k once in a while but most of the time I get along with it quite well.

Quick question on the MB-101. Is the sweet spot central or a little closer to the heel? I have only ever owned one set of Miura's in the past (baby blades) and found the sweet spot to be more heel side.

Driver = Callaway Smoke-Ai Max-D

3 wood = Callaway Smoke-Ai Max HL

3 Hybrid = Tour Edge Exotics C722
Irons = 4-PW Miura KM 700
Gap Wedge = Miura HB 50*

Sand Wedge = Taylormade MG2 56*

Putter = LAB DF3

Ball = TP5x pix

Yes, sweet spot does feel like it’s slightly towards the heel. But I hit that spot once in a while by fluke 🙂

Got fit into Dynamic Gold S400 Tour.

How are you finding the 101’s? I’ve ordered a set and believe in Australia we get the global edition, so they will come with the Y grind (but not 100% sure about this). I’ve put KBS C Taper x’s into them.

When I hit them during my fitting it was just a whole new experience. But it was indoor and off synthetic matting so I’m yet to experience the turf interaction.

They’ve said it’ll take 8 weeks for the build. It’s been the longest 3 weeks of my life so far!
