I enjoyed watching this event.   Some nice golf played. 

From Lydia winning to Nuria's million $ smile, it was fun for me.

I was surprised, though, that there were no leaderboard updates during the round.   The only time we saw the leaderboard was at the start of the TV coverage.

Lydia and Thitikul, both who respected the Saudi's dress code for women, finished 1 & 2.

 

I didn't realize Lydia has an overlap grip...I always though she had a Vardon grip.

Lydia is such a great chipper and lag putter.

One can only imagine if Lydia had 15 more yards off the tee with a tighter dispersion.....and with more overall power...she'd be 3 clubs shorter on approach shots leading to better proximity to the hole....closer for birdies and more fire power to reach the greens in two on par 5's.

 

I said it before....Thitikul's putting can be suspect at times...especially the 4-6 footers (especially finishing the rd) and lag putting at times.

We saw this with the missed putts on 16 & 17.

She needs to clean this up...it will cost her future trophies.

 

IMO...I think Thitikul should experiment with a new putter (blade) and grip (traditional grip)....?????...in the off season.

He's 72...I think he was making well over $500,000/yr...all travel expenses paid for, maybe an executive/VP PGA tour pension???...tons of frequent flyer points....you'd think he'd want to just spend time and vacation with his family in his 'twilight' years.

Women's golf and particularly LET golf pays a LOT less than the men's tour.  I think I heard this Saudi tournament had a total purse of $800,000 US.  And it is considered one of the bigger LET events.  The announcers cited a couple LET players playing in the tournament that last year (when the tour was shut down for a period) one golfer took a job as a school teacher and another as a waitress.  Shows how little $$ these women have in reserve.  Also I noticed several using pull carts instead of hiring a caddy.  I wonder how much television coverage the LET gets in Europe?  Georgia Hall won a tournament in Europe early in her career and that got her an invitation to a major tournament in the US (US Open?). She declined and later stated it was because she didn't have the funds to make the trip. Compare that to the US men's tour with many having private jets.  

 

So I can understand the ladies playing wherever they can despite a given country's laws - particularly if they're trying to hold onto their tour card.

Both the Saudi events have a $1M US purse....this week is broken down as $200,000 US for individual event....$800,000 US for the team event.
