2021 T100S vs ZX7

I’m moving to ZX7 from decades of Mizuno for the sole. That said, I’ve been told by people I trust that the new T100/200 has the best sole geometry Titleist has done. Sounds like they strike a middle balance that is probably ideal for a LOT of players.

Hard to think you could go wrong. That said, T100S has strong lofts, so you’re probably going to have to relearn all your distances and that can be tricky.

Srixon Zx7 is larger and is better for someone who takes more of a divot. T100s is smaller and is better for someone who take less of a divot.

There is more offset on the Zx7 and less offset on T100s.

Both are great irons.

Not necessarily true. There’s a thread somewhere about sweepers using ZX7 and ZX5 irons. I personally am a sweeper and I couldn’t possibly love my ZX5/ZX7 combo set more. Best irons I have ever owned or hit, bar none!!

The V sole is incredible. That said I really think they work best for people who’s AoA is at least 4 down with a mid iron but preferably closer to 6. They can bring down efficiency for pickers.

Interesting. Well, they’ve been awesome for me. The only time I struggle with them is wet/soggy conditions, but that’d be the case with any irons.

What works is what works! There’s no perfect formula and I’m glad you love them. I also loved them when I was more shallow. Currently enjoying very narrow soled irons

Could be true. I had the Z765 irons for a hot minute.  I'm a sweeper and hated them.  Was sad to have to get rid of them because I bought them used for a song and they were brand new when they arrived.

Just goes to show, different strokes for different folks. I’m a big time sweeper and absolutely loved the Z785’s, and currently the ZX5 and ZX7 combo.

Agree.  "They" say lower bounce for sweepers but I like a bit of bounce on my irons and wedges.

For sure, they are just generalizations. Only going to know if you actually hit it.

Both great irons. ZX7s have an incredibly smooth flush feeling and T100s are clicky to me. If you miss over the top a little and have a tendency to this the toe they ZX7 are so good you have to watch them.

After one round I just felt something was a little off so I hit the range. I was hitting the ball about 3/4" toward the toe and flat out could not tell on the course. Ball was going so close to typical distance I never looked at the clubface.

T100s had similiar results to be honest it was just that clicky sound/feel I couldn't get but they are excellent. Can't go wrong either way.

I will say I think the t100 is probably slightly better on distance consistency, but it is really close.

I'm a sweeper as well and couldn't get the v sole to work as much as i wanted to game the zx7. Love how easy t100's are to hit not a fan how hard the ball feels off the face.

Interesting. Well, all about what works best for you. I’ll be gaming my ZX7’s until the end of 2022 at minimum…absolutely love the feel and the smoothness!

@badandbogeysaid it perfectly. I moved from ZX7 to T100s. I wanted the Srixons to work for me but the sole doesn’t work for my slightly shallow swing on firmer turf of western CO. The T100s are a much better fit for me and I’m hitting the middle of the face way more as opposed to low on the ZX7 face. I don’t love the feel as much with the T100s but I’m hitting them further and more consistent than Srixon and nothing feels better than the ball going where you want so I’ll be sticking with Titleist.

Can you speak on that lack of love for the feel more? Just clicky?

Yes a little firm/clicky compared to several other recent forged sets (ZX7, Cobra Forged CB/MB). These maintain very good speed and flight on toe misses, where I seem to miss more often. They aren’t unpleasant, but I do prefer the buttery feel of others more.

i believe the criticism of the v-sole is unfounded and more to do with the swing, then the club

I don't find my T100S (2021) clicky or hard feeling/sounding at all.  Kind of surprised by those comments but to each his own.  I have not hit the zx7's so can't comment on a comparison.

I agree. 2021 T100s feel awsome to me. As good as ZX7. Both great irons however IMO 21 T100s is a much improved version over 19 T100s than ZX7 over Z785

I think the problem is how few people are comparing apples to apples with the same shaft. Modus is so common in the zx7’s and I did not get along with them at all. T100’s for me have DGs but I’m curious to know how many of the zx7 naysayers actually hit them with the same shafts. I’m sure some did… doubt most did.

I love my ZX7s, played 100+ rounds with them so far, heck loved them so much I even bought a backup set of short irons. I play them with the modus 120x, which is a great shaft if it fits your swing

With that being said, I recently picked up a set of the 2021 T100s irons (with a similar shaft, PX LZ6.5). They were noticeably softer feeling and less clicky than the previous gen T100 or AP2s. Are they as soft as the srixons? No they are not, that endo forged single piece feel can only be replicated with a like for like iron.  But they are definitely not clicky either. The big difference for me was all of the tungsten/weight down low. I am a sweeper and tend to miss low on the face, so for me they launch/spin higher, without losing any ball speed. The other main difference is the looks, the top line is noticeably thinner and the satin finish looks awesome in the bag (not that the srixons are ugly in anyway).

    • Sony Open Pics from January 11, 2022 Part 1
I was able to get out to the Sony Open today to take a few pics.  I guess due to Covid precautions they kept the spectators pretty far from the players.  Also due to camera restrictions they've put in place, I wasn't able to bring the big lens like I normally do. Hopefully they'll ease up on the ropes and I'll be able to get more pics tomorrow!
