Bucks County Pa Private Club Options?

Bucks County Area Private Course.

I live in Doylestown Pa. 33 year old. 7 handicap. Looking to get into my first private club. I play about twice a week but with kid on the way I need to be able to pop in and out and public courses just don’t give me the ability to play quickly. Get 9 or 18 in without having it be all day. 
Nice practice facility, within 30 min drive. It seems there aren’t too many options that are reasonably priced. I cannot afford the 20k initiation. I’m looking for something around 5k initiation, and 5k a year but could push it to 10k all in if it was truly worth it. 
my short list so far: Spring Mill, Doylestown CC, Commonwealth, Yardley CC, Lulu. North Hills seemed rather expensive for what it offers. 
im new to the area so courses that require 3-5 sponsorships seems rather impossible. Idk if that’s true. 
 

ive checked the forums and haven’t found too much on this area except Philmont disaster. 
Any insight into these club or courses I may be missing to consider would be greatly appreciated!

Tough area for private golf unless you are loaded and/or well connected.

 

If I were in your shoes (limited budget, want something close, don't know anybody), I'd get a membership to the Bucks Club which is semi-private. I used to have a friend that had that membership and he had no problem getting the tee times he wanted since he got to book before the general public.  However, looking at their website, their memberships is sold out for 2022, so forget that. Thanks COVID!

 

The only other private clubs within 30 minutes or so that are not already on the list you mentioned are possibly Old York Road CC and Talamore (forget Jericho and Lookaway, those are big bucks.) I know just about zilch about Old York Road and Talamore other than that they exist. Indian Valley is probably 30-35 minutes but I heard they are on a wait list, great practice facility though.

 

If you are willing to drive 40 minutes, Steel Club in Hellertown would probably otherwise meet your criteria, but 40 minutes is a long drive for a club you want to use often.

Philmont was in great shape when I was there a few weeks ago.  I also know some members are now returning.  IMO, Philmont is better than every course on that list.  How much is Doylestown?  Seems an obvious choice since you are right there.

Yeah I am going to look into Doylestown cc. From what I’m told it’s pretty expensive but not 100% sure. The problem is that they have sponsorship only and I’m new to the area so I don’t know anyone there. 
 

anyone know anything about Doylestown pricing or how the course is?

 

also anything about philmont pricing? All the forums a few yrs ago said they lost their greens so interesting that you had a good experience recently. 
 

I see another thread about talamore but no info so anything about that too would be interesting,

North Hills is nice. I was there this past summer.  All the amenities.  If you like to travel its part of Club Corp which has courses all over the country.  Play any of them for only a cart fee. Looking at my directory it shows three other member courses within about an hour drive of North Hills. I'm retired and a member of a Club Corp course and love this benefit. Since its part of a large corporation it has deep pockets available.  During Covid and a prolonged shutdown we still financially survived. We were actually given credits to make up for the shutdown. Additionally a slight tornado hit our course (during shutdown) and I was told the cleanup was about $1 million.  No assessment occurred.

I've heard great things about Lulu and the dues seem very reasonable. The membership director quoted me a 15 month waitlist for full golf with payment of a $250 application fee. Not sure if you can wait that long but if you're here long term I'd definitely consider it.
