Classic blades with a little offset?

My current gamers are some Cleveland 588s, the late 80s cast ones with some offset. I was wondering how many of the classic sets discussed around here might also have some perceptible offset? Or are they all razor blades? It's surprisingly hard to tell just from photos online. Any help would be appreciated!

I've got a set of Slazenger Seve Ballesteros blades aimed at the mid to high handicap golfer that have quite a bit of offset, I'll be posting a video of them very soon on YouTube under Classic Golf Clubs.

They're a UK set though which might be a problem for you depending on where you're based.

MacGregor DX from 1964-65.

They have more offset that the M Tourneys and other brand prolines such as the Wilson Dynapowers of that era.

I read something the other day about the last set of irons that Payne Stewart was having built; supposedly he said that he wanted some offset but didn't want to be able to see it. I wonder how that works....

I know Titleist did this with their 990B irons by blending the front of the hosel into where it met the leading edge.

Tom Wishon's book "In Search of the Perfect Golf Club" has an exhaustive explanation in regards to the Stewart custom grind process he personally performed. Whether you agree with all of Wishon's concepts or not, this book is a thoughtful and well written explanation of club construction. A must read indeed!

Perhaps overlooked as too obvious but Wilson Staff Goosenecks?

I have a couple of sets from the late '80's. The enlarged head size puts them on the cusp of my collection but get in as I think they still qualify as blades rather than game improvement irons?

I was sort of just wondering how much offset these classics had in general. Not having handled older clubs much, I've assumed that they are all butter knives. But I was reading those 30s MacGregor catalogs, and see them talking about "just enough offset". I guess originally I thought that offset was something modern, something that came in with Pings or other game improvement clubs.

There is relatively little new in the game, most modern concepts have been tried before, it has perhaps just taken sometime for manufacturers to pick up the baton and run with it and refine the idea. Offset has featured for a long time as has "onset" (if that is a term) to try and take the hosel right out of the shot as an anti shank measure. PXG's perimeter port weights first appeared in Ogg-mented irons of the 1930's! The last great advance in head design was probably in 1932/33 when Gene Sarazen added "bounce" to his niblick to create a sand wedge although that took time to filter down and become a feature on longer irons.

In my collection spanning 1930 - 1990, only the Wilson Goosenecks and Ping Eye 2's feature any noticeable offset and so it would be fair to say offset is more widely adopted in the modern (game improvement) era.

I’ve just picked up a new full set of Dunlop Seve Blades (same as Slazenger) 1-SW also matching 1,3 & 4 woods from the 90s, I was surprised how much offset they have, I’ve never seen a blade with this much offset, the SW & PW look like they have as much offset if my Eye 2s.
