Vice pro plus iron distances

Just curious what others are finding with this ball.  I’ve recently been trying all of the DTC balls that are marketed similarly to the ProV1x (my preferred ball) in an effort to find a suitable, less expensive, option.  The Snell MTBX seems to be the best option but I’ve had some weird results with the Vice Pro Plus.

Full disclosure, I have not used a simulator and don’t have any hard data to back this up, but I have tested it enough to conclude with a fair degree of certainty that this ball is significantly longer with my mid and short irons (seems to possibly be the case with hybrids as well, but not enough shots to be confident in the results).

Anyways, the ball seems to be fairly similar to the ProV1x off the tee.  Perhaps a yard or two shorter but too many variables to say.  Definitely similar in length.  With my irons though, it is carrying significantly longer (around 7-8 yards with a 145 yard 8 iron).  Initially I thought that it may not be spinning well enough, but it does seem to hold greens reasonably well, and after watching TXG’s review it seems like it is likely spinning at least as much as PROV1x.

Has anyone else noticed anything like this with the Vice Pro Plus and have any theories?  I’m thinking that it is just an optimal launch and spin conditions for my irons.  I’m looking forward to trying it side by side on a launch monitor at some point and seeing what the numbers say.  I’ve never had a urethane cover ball have this sort of difference, even going from a high to a lower compression ball (chrome soft versus ProV1x) has never been more than a yard or two.  For what it’s worth I still think the Snell MTBX is probably my favorite DTC ball but the Vice and the Maxfli tour x were also good balls that I could easily be happy with.  I’m a 3.4 hcp.  Approach play with my irons is a definite strong part of my game and distance is my biggest weakness, so it does make me take notice.  Normally I only pay attention to how a ball performs distance wise from a driver perspective but this seems to be enough of a gain to make me think about it.

Also found it to be quite long with irons. Knock down shots especially seem to go farther than they should. Seems to be due to low spin compared to other balls. I spin it less than the tour b x and the chromesoft ls at least.

That’s interesting that you’re spending it less. Matt from TXG seem to be spinning it more than the Titleist. Seems like there’s a decent chance that’s what’s going on with me. It’s what I initially assumed until I watched TXG video.  I need to get some actual numbers for myself

Your results would appear to be close to numbers in the latest mgs ball test.

I currently game them and like them. Just a heads up. From my experience they do just as far if not a little farther than the Prov v 1x’s. I tried the Snell MTb and am not a fan. They felt heavy to me. Couldn’t place it but feel was a no go. The heads up with the Vice Pro plus is that the ball cover does not hold up as well. As per my experience, I end up scuffing the cover up after about 3 rounds which for me is about the life of a ball anyways. I don’t lose too many. Price point wise, they are cheap enough not to care when you do. I told myself I can probably get away with playing Prov’s as I find many a lost balls in great condition and for the rounds of golf I play which is about 4 a month, prices for prov’s can be had. For me, the lime green sets my ball apart from everyone in my playing group including those who use yellow as their color. Up to you and your price point i guess. A couple of positives, Good price point, and good to great results but only caveat is the covers are thin in design and they don’t hold up for more than 4 rounds

Been testing the Pro plus after the my golf sleuth's tests. Really solid ball, long off all clubs. Haven't noticed that it's got any weird distance gains off anything for me, just a long ball. Very similar to the ProV1x and Snell MTB-X that I usually game.
