2021 DP World Tour Championship

It’s time for the final event on the 2021 European Tour Schedule. The tour goes to Dubai with a reasonable field and Matthew Fitzpatrick is the defending champion. It looks highly likely that an American will win the Race to Dubai for the first time as Collin Morikawa and Bill Horschel are the top 2 in the R2D rankings. World number 1 Jon Rahm is not in the field which is surprising and kind of a blow to the event.

Course info: Par 72 7675 Yards

Defending Champion:-

Matthew Fitzpatrick

Notables in the Field:-

Collin Morikawa

Rory Mcilroy

Tyrell Hatton

Billy Horschel

Patrick Reed

Paul Casey

Matthew Fitzpatrick

Will Zalatoris

Tommy Fleetwood

Shane Lowry

The top 2 are American and the top Euro (#3 Rahm) dropped out. Seems about right for 2021 for the Euros.

Exactly, but you gotta remember Morikawa and Horschel won 2 tournaments each on the ET and both were pretty heavily weighted. Morikawa obviously deserves to be no1 after winning a Major and a WG, and Horschel won the flagship event for the ET and a WGC.

Should be a good watch this week. Again, it the deficiencies of the “Race” are clear for all to see when you see that with the exception of Majors and WGC, number 1 in the ranking has played 2 events and number 2 has played 3 events on the European Tour.

I say that in absolutely no way to criticise those guys, that they played any is great but do they deserve to be rewarded by potentially picking up huge bonus cheques for playing a couple events?

I have $40 on Collin Morikawa to win $300, on second round at 17 his ball was heading for the water and it was stopped by a tiny penalty stake. He is 2 behind and has a great chance to win it all.

He may not win the tournament but it seems like he is a lock to with the Race to Dubai, becoming the first American to win it.

Am I the only one that thinks the DP World Tour Championship is a fun name

I like the name too because it really states it is a world tour that plays all over the world.  However, not a big fan of company names used in the name of tours or tournaments  because when they get new sponsors the tour/tournament name changes a lot.  I'd rather them keep the tour/tournaments names the same and just say the tournament/tour name then "sponsored by company". Some tournaments I really like to watch because of the course I have missed because they changed the name. Too hard to keep track of. 😂

Good to watch Rory and Morikawa playing together today.

Still feels wrong that Morikawa is going to win the Race to Dubai though. He's only played 3 regular events. It's pandering by the Tour to allow him membership only playing 3 regular events.

For example, Tiger Woods played 3 regular European Tour events in 2006, but couldn't win the Order of Merit.

I'm in Dubai...and was planning to go 1 day - but just ran out of time.

Did play Montgomerie, Emirates (Majlis), and Dubai Creek this week - and last week played Saadiyat, Yas & ADGC in Abu Dhabi. Nice golf break here

You forgot to mention John Catlin  🙂 who was doing well today until a bogey on #18.

He won a major and a wgc this year, had 2 more 10s at the US Open and PGA, and was top 20 at the Masters. He's a European Tour member and he earned it.

Tiger could of won 6 or 7 order of merits on the European Tour over the years. Since he never actually joined the ET as a member he was not eligible for the OOM titles.

A fellow countryman in contention come sunday again. Hoping strong for the normal sunday breakdown not to occur. Our southern neighbors, Twins and others do deliver regularly when in top last day pairings. Hope to be proven wrong today.

I thought Bjork would be in contention more often since his China Open win. It seems like he has struggled a bit since finishing 2nd at the British Masters to Pepperell.

He has a great swing.

Collin is leading by 2. I don't have golf channel. Somehow McIroy boyed from 36 yards from fairway.

If Collin wins I get $300.

Rory was as unlucky as you can get. Hit the flagstick and went back into the bunker. Looked a perfect pitch. So frustrating. Turned birdie into bogey. That's the tournament right there.
