Picked this one up this week, but I haven’t had luck with Ping (yet) on who the putter was build for or the specs. Is anyone able to help?

Hopefully Ping doesn't ask for it back. Seems like some tour putters are not meant to get out into public hands.

That was my first thought as well.  I’ve heard of them blocking sales.  Then again I can’t imagine them going to the trouble to actually get it back.  They can ask…but if I paid what those go for, it would take more than a polite request to get me to hand it over.

They can ask often but also the player it was given to gets into hot water as well.

Best to be hush, hush when you get a tour club from certain brands.

Yup.  Especially PLD stuff

But even still, other than being able to “ask” for it back, there is nothing they can actually do to get the club back. I am likely at least the 4th or more owner of the club, other than who it was built for (be it a player, truck for demo at an event…) and original specs what can Ping really do?  I am not sure I understand why ping would not disclose this info. A week or two ago there was a PLD anser 2 in the BST that the person selling stated was built for Ernie Els.

Yes. Yes situation like that you’re definitely right. If it was a situation where you had gotten it directly from a player who was a friend the scenario be different.
and I’m not sure why they care so much about PLD stuff. For whatever reason they seem to

That's not a serial #.  PUD clubs have to have a "name" or something similar engraved on them.  That's all that is.  Not a Tour putter, but likely just some guy who works in the industry who sold it.

Edit:  I was wrong about this.  Not a putter destined for retail.

Interesting information.  Having worked in the industry for 20+ years, Ping very much used to only allow PUD orders if you had the name laser etched into the hosel (on irons at least).  I haven't seen them do that since the i3+ model though.

Why would Ping use the serial number (or PUD etching) with a "PGAxxxx" looking serial number?  I was able to get a hold of someone at Ping who was 100% certain of it's autheticity and that it was built for a tour player, but didn't have access.  He was reaching out to the proper people to get more info on the who it was built for and the specs.

It's still a thing.  You still can't order PUD clubs without etching your name, initials or similar on the hosel.  The serial number on putters (not all had them) is usually on the neck or heel somewhere (very small).  The PGA1145 likely only means something to the guy who ordered it.

Odd.  I've PUD'd Ping (I'm a Ping guy through and through) irons since the i5's and never once had my name engraved where I did on irons I3+ and earlier

There is no such thing as pud on pld putters. No discount for anyone. This putter was made for the tour.

It definitely is a tour putter.  The clue is in the serial, which starts PGA...

I went back to some threads when the PLD's were first shown on WRX (Tour shots) and there are a few where you can read the numbers.  It appears that this is indeed a Tour putter that was at the very least in the demo bag of a Ping rep who was at a Tour site.  Here is one of the clearer pictures from that thread.  I'm now betting that the OP's putter is from one of these bags and later sold.
