Details please, details?  Was there any one part of your game you focused on or found a key that helped you?

Thanks for sharing.

I think my improvement came from three things:

1) I really connected with Julian's method of getting out of a greenside bunker. Getting stuck in the sand had ruined many a good round for me. I had zero confidence when I ended up there. Using Julian's method this year I got out of the sand every time and have even gotten to the point where I wasn't just trying to get the ball on the green anymore - but actually had enough confidence that I'm trying to get it close to hole. That alone has made a huge difference in my game!

2) His very organized website (propergolfing.com) and video's simplified a lot of the golf swing for me - especially my backswing. Less thinking when golfing is a good thing! It also kept me focused as I was the type of guy who was always trying out new things with my swing. But I got so comfortable with Julian's method that I was able to stick with his philosophy for the whole summer. That helped me focus more on improving rather than experimenting!

3) I took full advantage of Julian's free video analysis (well, free if your a member of his website...lol). One free video analysis a month (although he wasn't too strict with that.) Through those video's I got some really good feedback and some good drills to work on that I think really helped my game (mostly around being more "connected" and getting a bit more turn).  I gained distance with my driver and found myself just generally hitting all my full swing clubs better.

I'm really excited to continue this improvement in 2022. Would like to get my handicap in the 8's!

I can see where it would seem that way but E has been through a number of instructors that he has posted about over the years.  Let's see if I can remember some of them...

Dalton McCrary

Jim Venetos

Brian Sparks

Michael Broderick

Julian Mellor

LOL I probably missed a few, maybe at least double that list?

This is a nice quick look at progress for two years. I will do the same for mine. Thank you for sharing! And congratulations on the success!

Thanks.  I find it's a good overall view of how my game is doing.

Every 3 years or so I do a deeper dive (FW Hit, GIR, U&D, Sand Saves, Putts etc).

I think I'm due for that type of analysis in 2022.

There were a few more, but that's a pretty good list.

And I told each one of them I'd shill for them if they could get me to a single digit handicap.

Julian was the only one who could do it!

Guilty as charged your honor.  That is a good thought, and great idea to find the one person or key that works for you. I"m terrible at this. And my adult ADD, while it helps me in my sales to get things done, it sucks for my golf -- here I am 66 years old and every damn week I'm heading to the tee excited to try the newest and latest swing thought or key that I found online during the week and was practicing with, only to revert back to my same old same old EE hip thrust all arms hodge podge.

I drive my playing partner - @Precis1on on this site, Will, how he puts up with me is a beyond me - absolutely crazy with my findings and thoughts.  I really need to hand him my parental control for You Tube on my laptop and stick to my guy -Monte is the guy for me.  He calls me obtuse and a knucklehead in his colorful ways, I just feel frustrated and incapable of doing what I need to when in reality I just don't have the patience needed to commit to the long term fix.

Thanks for posting this.  Makes me want to stick with just Monte and stop veering off every side street!

Yea, if you look at nels55's post - he knows I am (hopefully was?) the same way as you.

Find something that resonates with you and stick with it.

I gave myself (actually...I was challenged by a member of a different forum) to meet that challenge this past summer.  To stick with one swing philosophy for entire golf season and see what happened.

And although tempted many times - I really forced myself to meet that challenge - and I think it paid off

I really like Monte's stuff.

I don't think you would go wrong there.  Go for it!

Good luck!

Isn't Julian Mellor a 'disciple' of Brian Sparks?  Wondering what didn't work for you with Brian that worked with Julian.  I've used Brian Sparks swing, and I think it's a good one to copy, but perhaps Mellor has additional info I should look at.  When I hit into the sand, I immediate start convulsing.

Congrats... stay at it.

Keep in mind, as you attempt to go lower, progress is more about the mental side of golf and course management, and less about issues relating to your swing.

Yes, Julian was Brian Sparks right hand man and #1 coach for many years.

So his philosophy and teaching are right in line with Brian’s (I actually went to a Brian Sparks 3 day golf school a few years ago when I was in England)

What I think Julian does is add “a little more meat” to the teaching bones.  Brian’s teaching/coaching style was more philosophical and he tended not to get into a lot of mechanics unless he really had to.  Julian keeps the Brian Sparks philosophy, but with a little more attention to the details.  I needed that.

I like Julians website because he’s organized all his you tube videos in a logical and very systematic manner.  And of course there are a ton of videos unique to the website and not on you tube.  But they are now in a progressive order: overall philosophy, setup, iron swing, fairway wood and hybrid swing, driver swing, chipping/pitching/short game, putting, etc etc

Check it out.  If you like Brian’s stuff, you’ll certainly like Julians too is my guess.

    • Sony Open Pics from January 11, 2022 Part 1
I was able to get out to the Sony Open today to take a few pics.  I guess due to Covid precautions they kept the spectators pretty far from the players.  Also due to camera restrictions they've put in place, I wasn't able to bring the big lens like I normally do. Hopefully they'll ease up on the ropes and I'll be able to get more pics tomorrow!
