Is there any company you shy away from just because?

Callaway and TaylorMade, though only a bit. I don't entirely steer clear, I'm open to using their stuff if it performs the best for sure. But their marketing is too much imo. I hear the Ping/Titleist criticisms - it makes sense- but there's something I like more about those (at least seemingly) engineering, performance-driven companies versus the marketing machines that Callaway/TaylorMade are.

Ping G430 LST, 9, Ventus Blue 6S

Titleist TS2, 15, Hzrdus Smoke Black 70, 6.0

Apex UW, 19, AD-DI 8S

Srixon ZX, 23

Ping i230, 5-PW, Modus 120x

Ping S159, 48.12 S (at 49)

Vokey SM10, 54.12 D

Vokey SM9, 60.12 D (at 59)

Odyssey Triple Track Ten S, 34"

Z-Star Diamond

Our local driving range had a demo day with representatives from Ping, Titleist, Callaway, Taylor Made, and Mizuno. They each had their own tent and plenty of combinations to experiment with. I spent most of the day trying equipment. The Taylor, Titleist, and Callaway reps knew their stuff and couldn’t have been more helpful. The Ping rep was weak, at best. But the Mizuno representative was uncaring and generally uninterested in being there. I asked the owner of the range about this guy and he said, “That’s par for the course with that guy. Unfortunately, he is the only Mizuno rep in the area. The clubs have to sell themselves.” I will never purchase Mizuno equipment from that sales representative.

PXG looks too busy and fugly imo.

Honma as it is usually used by people who can’t play golf for s**t, at least in this part of the planet.

Nah.  Brand agnostic, 7 brands currently.  I'll play anything.  I used to avoid Titleist (Elitist is literally in the name) but not anymore, woods are too good to me.  Not particularly fond of PXG, TM, Callaway, Ping, but if a club seems like it'll be a good fit, looks good to the eye, and can be had for a steal, yeah I'll try it.  Pretty sure I can build a 14 brand frankenbag and love it.... though Hogan, Macgregor, Miura, TM, Callaway, Ping, Sub70, New Level, and others not currently in the bag, would probably take spots before PXG 😂

For me it's really just been PXG because I don't like the looks of the black screws they put all over everything. Seems in Gen 4 like those are being minimized or in some cases going away. Because of that change plus the great prices lately, I'd consider them now.

Other than that, and being a fan of Mizuno irons for nostalgic reasons, I'm pretty brand agnostic. I like having a mixed bag. I definitely do consider practical factors, though, at least in small part. For example, I've had really good customer service-related experiences with Titleist and Callaway recently, so maybe that's a tie-breaker in their favor. And Ping's wait times have been the worst in the industry generally speaking, which is something that'd cause them to lose a tie-breaker.

I used to be a big  TM hater.  I didn't like the multiple driver releases in a season.  However, over the years they have adopted an every year model, and their P Series irons have been legit for a few cycles now.

Swallowed by pride and tried their more recent offerings and have been incredibly impressed.  They are churning good product now.  P7MC are every bit as good as any Mizuno forged CB I've played over the years.  MG3 is a direct competitor to Vokey right now IMO.

If I had to shy away from an OEM at this point it would be Wilson.  Aside from Staff Blades (and CBs) their line is pretty underwhelming.

I could easily game a full bag of Titleist, Callaway, or Ping right now as well.   IMO we are in the middle of a quasi-golden-era of golf equipment.  In 15 years from now WRX forum members will be reminiscing about i210, the OG Epic Sub Zero, and their first Player's Distance type iron the same way we talk about old Adams, Warbirds, and 845s.

I dont really eliminate any manufacture for frivolous reasons like perception or reputation with the exception of PXG. Just cant do it… lol. But there are brands that i eliminate simply because they dont make stuff that suits my eyes or ears. Gotta have a thin topline low offset iron offering and a driver that doesnt sound like a tin can.

Wow I did not realize that so many people did not like Titliest!  LOL I play their balls and I have PXG irons in my bag!  I get why folks don't like PXG but they are the best irons I have ever played...  Oh well, life is too short to worry about stuff like this!

Ditto.  The anti-Titleist thing was surprising for me to see as well.  Roger Wilco on the bolded part.

This topic would be interesting as a survey

I agree but I’d want to see more of the “why” part. Like you wouldn’t play a club that works better for you because you don’t like their commercials? Or you don’t like their ‘elite’ reputation? Or they release too many new products? This is all alien to me. I get that all the world is about image and branding these days but surely there’s more to it than that, right?

I used to be completely  unimpressed by TM.  A fair bit of that was due to their product cycles.

I realized after a while, they actually saved us from the pricing trend that Callaway was initiating.  The GBB was $500 USD in 1995, with a stock shaft.

That's over $900 in today's dollars.  Again, with a stock shaft.

Without TM's effort, intentional or not, we might be paying stupid money for our drivers.

I'm still not a TM fanboi, but I'm willing to use their stuff now.

Don't really care, but do gravitate to certain brands in certain categories.

Never hit a pxg as I don't like the busy screws. For some reason avoid srixon though I don't know why especially as I have an old Dunlop wedge and putter that live in my office for use while on phone calls... Also have stayed away from cobra because I legit have a fear of snakes, but kinda wanna try them for driver/ fw's.
