Spectacular performance wasn't it?  I spoke with one of Jin Young's former coaches last evening after she won, and she said Jin Young's iron game has always been her strength and an exceptional one at that.

She also managed 14/14 fairways yesterday, and 51/56 for the week. Her driver isn't too shabby, either.

Very true that.  But I guess her former coach was thinking that her distance isn't the same as players such as Nelly, Brooke, Patty, etc.  whereas her iron game is even more exceptional.  I don't know . . . maybe chalk it up to the demanding nature of Asian teachers, parents, players, etc.??

I don't think I could hit that many fairways and greens playing from the forward tees at the course we have here where I can hit irons off the tee and wedges into greens. I would blade a wedge, pull it, or just get too aggressive on one and there would go the streak. That is just incredible...

She is sneaky long at times, though. Yesterday she did outdrive Nelly on one hole, albeit with the help of a firm bounce. She averaged 280 yds in the final round, and 260 for the week.

Seems like the minimum to be competitive in the LPGA these days is at the 250-260 yd range.  No wonder Hinako didn't feel comfortable joining in early on.    But I always thought that you can "get away" more in the LPGA with shorter distance so long as you have impressive iron play (relative to the PGA, that is).

So we got Morikawa and Ko as being able to throw darts with their irons. Good for the game.

So around 1-2am PST???.....just before heading to bed.....I think Rory had a 2 shot lead heading to the back 9....I'm thinking Rory will win.

I wake up the next morning....I check the GC website....WTH...and find out Collin surged on the back 9 to win....while Rory GAGGED on the back 9.

There's a reason why I call Rory...the MENTAL MIDGET.🤣

The more I watch Hideki, Morikawa, and JYK, the more I love my irons and wanna throw away my drivers lol.

JYK is just textbook for me. Too good not to admire and respect.  Boring as a driver off the tee but heck, you're trying to win LPGA tournaments.  She's the only one for me that hasn't disappointed in terms of having solid putting to complement superb iron play. The others have been inconsistent putters for me (eg Hideki, Minjee , Morikawa, Nasa).

Ko is amazing.

Also she is even more amazing is that she practices and hangs out with young pros and even junior golfers.

Imagine being able to play with the best in the world as a kid on fairly regular basis!

Thanks....I seen most of JYK's Youtube vids...but not these 2.

In the 1st vid....I assume the guy with the CJ hat is maybe a KPGA pro?

I think JYK likes junk food...I've seen her eating at McD's before....no rabbit food for JYK.

What irons you play?....Srixon, TM or Bridgestone?

I play TM RocketBladez Tour irons.

You don't like hitting your driver?...what driver you play.

This fall.....I switched from a TM M3 to a Ping 410.

So which Toronto courses do you often play?

I was born in TO...but moved away as a young kid to Burlington and Hamilton and lived in Guelph too...I loved my days in Guelph...my undergrad is U. of G.....moved to TO to work in 1988-1992...then transferred to Van City in early 1992.

My go to course was Westview in TO....I hear LOTS of Koreans now play there.

Most courses here in Van City...it's like playing golf in Seoul...so many Korean golf nut addicted players...male & female.

@KBong Maybe JYK's secret = eating well?
JYK mentioned "cookies and brownies and corned beef... and salad too" after winning the Founders Cup  🙂

In her final words on Sunday, Ko thanked Cognizant, the Founders sponsor. And … the chef at Mountain Ridge.

Apparently, the club has more than just hot dogs and chips. Winning was sweet, and so was the food.

“Yeah, the food was amazing,” Ko said. “I had a lot of cookies this week. [She laughed.] And brownies as well. And I love to eat corned beef. I had a lot of beef and turkey this week. Like salad was really good.

“I’m hungry right now.”

Anyone know if JYK has a preferred shot shape with her irons?  Looks pretty dang straight on TV (without the benefit of shot tracer).

I believe in the CME broadcast...they said her preferred shot shape is a draw, including her irons.

I think she doesn't like right pins with trouble right...that would mean aiming at trouble to hit it tight to the pin

I think I read that JYK donates a fair share of her money.

She doesn't seem like a prima dona....seems like she doesn't need all the material crap to make her happy.

I read...can't find the link/article..... that JYK is the highest endorsed female golf pro nowadays.....$5M...but I don't know the term length of the $5M.

JYK also seems to have an affinity for potato chips and Netflix.

https://www.planetsport.com/golf/news/jin-young-ko-wins-tour-championship-lpga-player-of-the-year

She now plans to relax in the off-season.

"I want to keep the golf clubs at a distance, not think about golf and get a good sleep," she said. "Just want to put potato chips in my stomach and watch Netflix."
