Thoughts on iron covers

Want to know everybodys opion on iron covers...

 

For me I use iron covers. I hate it when my irons bang against each other and end up denting each other and I also cant stand when I hear my clubs dragging in the back of my truck and my irons gets scratched up. 

Probably most people would say that iron covers are stupid or not kool, but for me personally I like them. Its protecting your irons that you invested alot of money into, I mean we have covers for our driver and woods, so why not have covers for our irons...

plenty of posts on this topic but in my opinion, it's your gear... do what you want. 

 

I can't stand them myself. you're more likely to lose them (ask me how i know). As far as clubs dragging in your truck, just put the rain cover for your bag on before putting them in the bed/cab/trunk

Well hell, if we are going to have the "brands you stay away from thread" that morphs into a pxg bashing and titleist elitism thread, we may as well have this one on iron headcovers where we yet again establish that those who use them should be immediately rounded up and executed for their misdeeds.

I dont use them, I kinda like the look of worn/beat up irons. Now my woods on another hand, cant stand any damage or scratches to the crown.

If I had a brand new set of irons like Wilson Staff model blades or something of that style I would definately use covers as they are too nice to get damaged.

I use them,  can't stand seeing forged irons for sale that are all beat up. If you go to the expense of spending $$ for some nice forged irons why not protect them?

If I was to primarily ride carts, I would likely use them as that tosses your clubs around more than anything.  Simply walking with your clubs doesn't do much at all and I simply reach my hand back and stop the clubs from banging together if I feel it's an issue.

 

I would seriously question people who play rock hard cast clubs or Ping's (not a bash on Ping, I have i210s) as they take abuse far more than some forged heads.  More so if those hard cast clubs are also higher polished heads that show worse instantly...

Exactly the same reason. We cover the metal wood heads so they don't get banged up.

You can't compare iron heads to that of woods and hybrids though.  One for the most part is a solid metal head with minimal paint, the other a thin metal/composite head that is hollow and far more susceptible to scratching, dents and paint chipping.  One gets thrown into the ground where who knows what lies beneath, the other is played off a tee or skims the turf.

The same as yours. I chalk up why most people let their irons go without covers to the same reason why most people do a lot of things that don't necessarily make any sense: 'Because that's how everyone does it.'  🙄

Peroxide effect? When I pull a club from my bag I pull the head cover and leave it on the bag. I've done that since my first set of clubs. When I return I put the cover back on. This is not rocket science.

I walk, and walking doesn't beat up irons very much.  Iron covers are one more thing to hassle with and lose.  I don't mind if my irons are used looking: they are a tool, and tools are meant to be broken in and used.  

 

Now, if I wanted to play a set of irons and then display them on a wall, it might be different, but a tool is a tool and wear and tear is part of the equation.  Just like in car racing: "if you can't afford to replace it, don't race (track) it".  If you have a gorgeous, high dollar car that you take to Cars and Coffee, the track probably isn't the best place for it.  If you have irons that you want to keep looking pristine, hitting balls with them probably isn't the best use of those irons.
