Do you have headcovers on your woods and putter?

If the answer is yes than why not your irons.

P.S.

Don't worry what everybody else thinks it's not there $$$$$

Yes to covers on woods and putter.

Why not irons - because I don't hit my putter into the ground every time I use it and unlike my irons my woods are hollow shells of thin metal with a large visible area (crown) that I don't want scratched up.

I don't use iron covers and I don't care if anyone else does as long as you keep up with pace of play. If you're spending an excessive amount of times pulling and replacing covers or going back for covers that have fallen (doesn't matter if it's an iron, putter or wood cover). That pisses me off.

Almost seems like iron covers could be a strategy for someone to think you’re a hack or get someone upset in the middle of the match “accidentally” leaving one behind.

in all reality, it’s your money and if you’re a club hoe like a lot on WRX iron covers help resale value. If they’re your gamers and you keep it for a long time why not have some character in them. Seeing someone with a bag of blades with chatter and a brown sweet spot worn out can be quite intimidating haha.

They're you're clubs, do what you want. More importantly, who are you people that think iron covers are hard to keep track of? Are you the 30+ year olds still using chain wallets?

Want to know everybodys opion on iron covers...

For me I use iron covers. I hate it when my irons bang against each other and end up denting each other and I also cant stand when I hear my clubs dragging in the back of my truck and my irons gets scratched up.

Probably most people would say that iron covers are stupid or not kool, but for me personally I like them. Its protecting your irons that you invested alot of money into, I mean we have covers for our driver and woods, so why not have covers for our irons...

Thoughts???

Simple answer. Use them. No reason to over think it. It's nobody else's concern. Simply ignore the people here and your golf buddies that might give you grief over using them. You don't need to answer to anybody over them. Stick with your choice. Happy golfing.

One of the gals I played with this weekend had them. She only forgot/dropped/left behind about 5 of them in 18 holes. 🤣

Maybe we should start a new topic.

If you are going to use iron covers know how to use them before hitting the course.

I've used iron covers for over 20 yrs and I never forgot/dropped/left behind any in all my yrs of playing.

You can't compare iron heads to that of woods and hybrids though.  One for the most part is a solid metal head with minimal paint, the other a thin metal/composite head that is hollow and far more susceptible to scratching, dents and paint chipping.  One gets thrown into the ground where who knows what lies beneath, the other is played off a tee or skims the turf.

scratches, dents and paint chips on irons are proudly called battle scars, but not the same for metal woods? woods and hybrids are such prima donnas.

She lost one on the first hole, but we only got to the second tee box before the group behind us shouted. I started paying attention after that, she didn't though. 🤣

As far as "use" I think it's pretty straightforward. The issue seems to be placement, storage, location when not in use. At least it was for her.

Maybe do a magnet in the tip like the PXG driver cover so you can stick it to something?

How often do irons get scratches, dents and paint chips?  I don't consider chatter a dent, you might as you have a bit of a misplaced agenda.  If you hit a rock under the turf/sand, sure, play with your headcovers on to make sure you have pretty sticks...

I use them,  can't stand seeing forged irons for sale that are all beat up. If you go to the expense of spending $$ for some nice forged irons why not protect them?

A little advice. I used them for a short period when I was a kid and didn’t have much money. Bought some nice mizuno forged irons so used them for awhile. Mizuno actually tells people not to use them on irons because they can cause pre mature rusting on the face from little nicks on the face from hitting balls. Sure enough I ran into some rusting and it made them look worse had I not used them.

PEI, please recognize, in the grand scheme of things, headcovers or no headcovers for irons is a relatively minor issue. I am taking this thread as a little bit of humor in the golf world, if I shouldn't, I apologize.

    • Sony Open Pics from January 11, 2022 Part 1
I was able to get out to the Sony Open today to take a few pics.  I guess due to Covid precautions they kept the spectators pretty far from the players.  Also due to camera restrictions they've put in place, I wasn't able to bring the big lens like I normally do. Hopefully they'll ease up on the ropes and I'll be able to get more pics tomorrow!
