Portland area courses for kids

Could someone recommend a Portland area course that allows kids onto the course, or maybe is more encouraging to allow kids on? My son just turned 7 and has taken to golf really well. We spend a lot of time on the range and on the putting green, and I would like to take him out and play a couple of holes. He'd pick his ball up and place it where mine is, hit a few shots, etc. I want to introduce him to other aspects of the game and allow him to get the feel of being on the course, in ways my dad did when I was his age. I have a 9 year old daughter that tags along with me for some dad time on the course too.

 

We just moved out to Scappoose from Portland, and I never had any problems taking them out on the course, walking or on a cart at Heron, but at Wildwood they won't allow kids under 8 to be on the course. I had never heard of that, but was told it's a liability issue. It was a little disappointing to say the least, and my son was crushed.

 

I plan on going out to Vernonia, Colwood, and some other smaller courses, but was wondering if there's any other recommendations.

At Langdon we have a kids set of tees set up every day. No forced carries and generally the tee box is about 5 yards before the fairway starts. 
 

I might not recommend busy times but my son is 9 and really enjoying the game (or maybe just being out there with dad). We will head out on a Fri or Sat night and tee off about 10 - 15 minutes after the last group. We will play between 6 & 9 holes and then go eat in the restaurant.

Second the rec for the Children's Course.  There's a great First Tee program there. 

 

Other options:

 

Sah-Hah-Lee - good par 3 course, basically the next step up from the Children's Course.  Longest hole is about 185. Driving range (mats)

Eagle Landing - Pitch n putt, longest hole is about 90 yards.  Great place for you to work on your short game while the kids play along

 

All of those are a bit of a drive from Scapoose, tho.

I don't understand how a 7 year old is a bigger liability than an 8 year old.  Places have some strange rules.  It seems this time of year would be the best to get out and not be pushed by people behind you.

Maybe Three Rivers in Kelso?

 

Wildwood, do they really check your kids age?

WW doesn't have the best range or a short game area (last I remember)

 

Heron Lakes is better and closer

 

Pumpkin Ghost Creek has good range and plenty of short game area

Claremont in Bethany has forward tees. I have been bringing my son there since he was 5 with no problems.

No, it's closed until at least 2024 as the course is redeveloped from the current 18 hole par-3 course into a 9 hole executive course by architect Dan Hixon.
