Who's buying into the Bryson vs. Brooks phony hype bullcrap?

Are you like me....tired of being taken for a sucker, designed to lure in gullible fanboys who buy into this so-called "feud" between two golfers merely out to pump up the cash-grab payday?  Even "reputable" golf websites are treating this like it's not a Phil Mickelson-produced (that's why he's on the call, folks) "showdown" between two who "really don't like each other."  Now they're saying the "truce" at the Ryder Cup was really a put-on because they "really don't like each other."  For the past week, B & B have been tossing extra-lame hate-barbs at each other.... all designed to juice the ratings -- not to mention the betting handle.  (Don't think that Bryson will get a piece of that action?  Take at look at his cap, boys: "Draft Kings.")  Treating this like some long-overdue heavyweight title fight is more than insulting; it's a joke to take any of the Oscar-caliber animosity seriously.  Hey, if the weather is crappy and nothing else is on, I'll check in just to see how they gin up the fake affronts but if you're expecting anything more than a close-to-scripted reality show, then you're dreaming.  Remember, it's only 12 holes because producers know viewers can only take so much crap.  Even if they "really don't like each other."  (While laughing all the way to the bank.  Right behind Phil.)

This is a made for TV event.  What exactly did you expect?  

 

I'll tune in and watch because I believe I will find entertainment value.  I really don't care how much of the "feud" is real or not...no different than how I watch TV shows and movies that are 100% fictional and scripted.

A hill I'm willing to DIE on?  Oh come now, sir... hardly.  It's simply a comment regarding a completely unimportant match they're promoting as a blood feud; a phony squabble being hyped with mock animosity.  You watch: when it's all over -- all 12 holes -- these two will probably hug it out and seal it with a kiss.  "What a great guy!"  All for attention and cash.

Yep, precisely, me too. I couldn't care less about the supposed feud, eager to see the golf from these top tier players. Very interested to see how far BD hits it and how BK handles it. This oughta be fun!

I'm glad I don't have cable / ITV. I don't think these kind of matches are interesting in the least. If I had access, there are too many other sporting events I would tune in to see on Fri. Like so much of what is presented for consumption I just figure that I'm the wrong demographic anyway. 

But the OP raised some issues that are worth considering. The unintended consequences of legalized gambling, the excessive money, the hype regarding distance above all else, the PGA money pools, etc have all caused me to turn it off and focus my attention elsewhere.

Not only is the sport now out of reach financially, but it's become out of reach emotionally as well. All of the above has led to that. I feel that excessive $$$ has ruined a once grand sport. I fully realize that money has been a part of golf since the days of Old Tom, but now it seems like way too much for me. 

I'm sure that most will disagree, but as a society I think we need to ask how much it too much, especially in our time when society seems to be fracturing more and more on a daily basis.

Wouldn't it be interesting if someone turned down the big money match and suggested that people put their money to a better use? Now that would be inspiring.

What a load of bs they are shoveling. What do people think will happen? Fist fight? Boring golf? My money is on the latter. At a senior event in the 80's or early 90's players were warming up on a range that had tees at each end. JC Snead, was hitting drivers and a ball hit a cart in which Dave Hill's wife sat. Hill drove to the other end and they had a fist fight. Hill weighed 140, Snead 220. On the senior tour! That is a feud.

Haters?  Hardly.  Some of us would rather spend out time doing something else more meaningful than watch two very talented prima donnas act like 12 year olds.  There’s no hate, jealousy, envy, or any negative feeling from me.  My time is valuable and my family and friends are worth more than a Brooks/Bryson feud.

I definitely think their feud is made for TV. Maybe there is somewhat of a dislike just because they are competitive people who want to be the best--But the level of this "feud" is definitely being played up

 

I actually think it's good. The whole "popularity money" was kind of flawed from the beginning. We all knew that and it was openly discussed here.

 

So, seeing 2 guys pretty much RIGHT AWAY turn the PGA tour into the WWE is probably what they needed to be like "maybe this isn't gonna go the way we want". I joked about this a while back but this will only get more and more hilarious if it actually works. You're gonna see guys bringing "mean gene" Okorland out on the course with them and calling their opponents jabronis.
