So I have my PXG blades on the back up shelf in the garage. I have 25deg hybrid (PXG), Ping G700 6 & 7 irons, Ping i210 7-UW, Glide 54 & 60 deg wedges. If I'm hitting it really consistently by this spring or early summer, the PXG blades will go back in the bag. I really do like them. I'm also realistic about my game. I really think by the summer that they will be back in the bag (5-GW).

I'm loving the ST's here also---but the real test will be how confident i am the night before my first tournament LOL

 

We'll see if the Cobras don't sneak back into the bag at some point

I read this entire thread and you guys nailed it.    Talking about 0211ST and dogs.   This is one of my all time favorites and i am definitely following this one.   

 

First Item:   I own both the 0211ST and the Gen 4 0311ST - they are both outstanding.  Yes, they are smaller footprint but do have some forgiveness built into them - they are not your 30 year old blades.    It almost feels like the trust is there - granted you must make a good swing but the ball goes exactly where you are aiming.  I love it. 

 

Second item:   My Dog -Shiloh - she is 3 years old and absolutely loves to go walk 9 holes with me (until a damn squirrel comes around).   She is getting better at stopping the chase after the squirrel is up the tree but it is a very good race to that tree.    I have not thought about the dog pulling my golf cart but that could be a disaster.

So i got the Trackman today too. I think by this point i've decided that i am gonna start the season with the PXGs and see how i like hitting them in the real world. Especially on Par-3s where i have to carry like 180yds of water.

 

I did bring my Cobra Forged TECs today too to hit into the trackman vs the PXGs.

 

It's really the same old story. I hit the Cobras a bit lower and longer--However they are less lofted. It's like a 3 degree loft difference on the 7 iron. So it was like 165yd carry at 19/20 degree launch with the PXGs and 170 carry with 18 degree launch with the Cobras today. Does this really matter in the real world? Not really. The only difference is loft for the most part. In terms of forgiveness , no difference with the 7 iron.

 

I'm still waiting for a terrible range session with the 4 or 5 irons but it hasn't happened. Today i hit 10 straight 5 irons with a total distance dispersion of 10yds and carry distance dispersion of 6 yards.

 

I think i'm good enough for blades. At least on a trackman

 

I've also shot 4 consecutive rounds in the 60s in virtual golf. So there's that

Based on your lofts, you won't see a ton of difference in mishits with the 7 iron.  I believe it was Tom Wishon that talked about this.  Also everyone has a miss, and it may be that the PXG's work really. well for your miss so playing them won't be any worse in the long irons.  My miss is toe side nowadays and blades are fine on the shorter irons, but when I get to the longer irons a miss on the toe with a blade not only hurts but it goes nowhere.  If your misses are working with the blades then just play them.

 

I've never been into playing certain clubs for looks or to make a statement.  I play what allows me to get the ball in the hole the quickest.

 

Oh here are my two.  Both Rescues.The white and black one with the curled tail is a Jindo/Pointer mix that was rescued from Korea.  The black white and brown one is an Australian Shepherd/Rat Terrier mix that was rescued locally.

My wife and FIL both went to UGA, my FIL played Basketball for them.  I expected after the UGA championship she would want a bulldog, but she said she takes our dogs on hikes and a bulldog wouldn't keep up and it would have to be "my" dog.  I'll get a German Shep or something in the retriever family, no bulldogs for me.  I think I may go German since getting a wolf would be a no no and a German at least looks kinda the part.

I don't blame him.  No sensible person would jog in the snow! He can sense craziness nearby! 🤣

Since the PXG 0211 driver is only $180, I'm going to do a fitting for it and the ST's while I'm there. I'll get to hit these after all.

No PXG or Cobra clubs at the moment, but I do have a dog to share. Here is Deshaun, named by the kids for our favorite college player ever. He’s a boxer, St. Bernard, pit mix, and just the kindest dog ever.

I don’t have a dog anymore but dogsit for my brothers and sister. My last dog was a Shetland Sheepdog, smart as they come and you could walk him without a leash anywhere.

So , i finally had the day i was looking for...It took many months , but i finally had a bit of an "off" day. It turns out, being such a magnificent striker of the ball has it's downsides--i wasn't really able to evaluate forgiveness.

 

I'd say a slightly off center hit, or hitting say a tiny bit fat--was costing me a good 10 yards.

 

By the end of my session i was not really feeling it, and i probably hit 5 balls in a row (6 iron) at 170 yards or less carry. Typically 6 iron is about 180. Just a little bit off, little out towards the toe, or a bit fat...and it's like a 163 carry, you know that sort of thing.

 

Anyway, i'm hoping i won't have too many days like this on the course. It was definitely noticeable, and i for sure felt i would've gotten more out of the Cobras

Just a great thread. Cat pics a bit suss though. Hit the 0211 ST in my fitting and liked it. Not mega forgiving by any stretch but playable. This is Finley out on the golf course in fall for an adventure.

I’m loving this thread. I got the 0211 ST 6-PW in the Nippon 850 R. They were simply too cheap and too pretty pass up. I didn’t really intend to play them that much, I just thought I’d bring them out a few times a year and then say, “yep! Not good enough for blades. As I thought!” But I’ve been hitting them really well. The head size is just big enough to not be too intimidating - top line isn’t butterknife thin. I actually carded my career-best round a couple of days ago with them: a two-under 69! I hit 16 greens, 12 of them with the 0211 STs. Granted, I’ve done a ton of work on the swing the past couple of years and have moved path from about 5º-ish left over to 1º-ish in-to-out, which definitely has helped strike, distance, etc.  In my experience, when you’re really working hard on your game, you can play with anything. But I’ve been surprised by the forgiveness of these blades and how easy the 6-iron is to hit. I’m thinking of getting the 4 and 5 irons! Although at my speed, 4 irons are mainly for under-tree escapes.  

 

The Nippon 850 shafts are interesting. They play firmer than I thought they would. Firmer than the Elevate 95 Rs I have in a set of PXG 0211 DC irons.  Not a bad feel at all - they feel light but stable. Still plenty of height, even at my slower speed, and it seems to be easier to draw the ball.  

 

We’ll see what happens when that nightmare bad ball-striking day happens, but for now blades are in the bag!
