PXG 0211DC vs 0311XP Gen 3 Question

I went to an outdoor fitting before the new Dallas store opened and the 0211DC irons seemed to be the best fit though I hit only a couple of shots with the 0311 (not sure which model he handed me). The one thing I wasn't crazy about was the length of the head from heel to toe on the 0211DC 7i. I've been playing the last three generations of Callaway Apex irons (the standard version, not the "pro's") so I'm used to a little more compact head. Since the 021DC irons are described as a "progressive" set, and since they only had 7i heads in that set, I am a little concerned, knowing the offset increases, that the head length continues to get too big in the longer irons. Is that the case? 

 

One of my golfing partners has a full set of the Gen3 XPs and even though there is no 0211DC to directly compare to, I get the impression that the 0311XP head is a little more compact. The lofts, shafts lengths, etc. between the two seem to be the same. I've hit his irons a couple of times while warming up before a round and I hit them OK. Right now, the 0211DC irons are hard to ignore being back down to $75 for Black Friday!

 

Also, were I to get the 0211DC irons, with this reduction in price, I think I'd change to the GP Tour Velvet grips. Any thought how that might affect how they feel or play?

XP are roughly the same headsize in the longer irons to the 0211DC and P are more similar in size to the shorter DC irons.

 

The 0211DC are like a split set.

 

0311 XP’s are longer, larger heads with more offset and stronger lofts than 0311P.  0211DC is a good mix of both.

I hit my Gen3 0311XPs yesterday for the first time, right out of the box. It was my  first round in 3 weeks.

After about 5 holes, my buddy looked over to me and smiled. He said “it looks like they have potential…” 😉

He canceled an order for Apex DCBs and ordered a set of XPs with the MMT 70 shafts as soon as we finished and went inside for a drink.

Owning a set of DCs and been fitting with 3 different iterations of PXG (Gen1, Gen2, Gen3), to my eye there really isn't much difference in the size.  Feel I would tip ever so slightly in favour to the Gen3 because of the forging process but 90% of the shots with my DCs felt as soft as I remember from hitting the forged stuff.
