Anyone play both 19 deg hybrid and 18 deg fairway?

Not personally, but my dad does and I discussed this with him a few weeks ago. As to be expected they have some overlap yardage wise, he mainly uses the hybrid when he's not comfy with the wood from specific lies (i.e. longer rough). He doesn't carry a lob wedge so he has the space to carry both. The hybrid would be the first club to go though in case he wants to add something else.

For me personally, it's either one or the other. I carried a 19* hybrid and switched to 19* 5 wood just recently. I just like the ballflight better.

16.5 fairway (4w) and 19 hybrid so close. I’m not good at hitting my FW off of the deck so she’s there when my driver goes AWOL and for a few holes on my home track.

I do. I have a 19° hybrid and an 18° FW. I technically play the hybrid at 19.75°, but it's 19° stock.

Not an overlap issue with me at all. The flights are very different and the FW is longer, too.

I also have a 4 iron in this neighborhood in terms of loft, at 21°, but again, very different flight.

I don't play a 3W (15° FW) anymore because it's not very useful to me off the turf and I don't need another option off the tee.

I play an 18° driving iron and 21° hybrid. Yardages are really similar but both clubs have entirely different roles/shots in the bag. At the end of the day your set makeup should be all about allowing you to hit whatever shots you’re faced with on the course. If a hybrid/fwy combo gives you the shots you need and you dont run into any problems with yardage gaps then I’d say you’re solid 🤙🏼

One notch up...

I carry both a 7W (21*) and a 4H (22*).

7W only about 10 yards longer, but it flies higher, and gets ball out of medium rough better.

4H launches a bit lower, and if I tee really low I can get a stinger-type shot on tight driving holes. Into wind, can match 7W on distance.

If I need the distance the FW is great for hitting out of the bunker or a great fairway lie.

The hybrid is better for worse lies.  If I can't hit it with an iron it is time to take a drop.

I base what type of club to use based on the lie.  I am far more comfortable using an iron to deal with lies that are tilted and require me to take an awkward stance. Which is rather common on the course I play.  Shorter clubs tend to be easier to hit.

Not anymore. Use a 16 degree 3 wood, a Adam’s Tight Lie, and then an 18 degree 3 hybrid set to 17. Still gives me a 10 to 15 yard gap.

I used to because I couldn't hit a 3 wood.

The 18 5 wood (with the longer shaft) went longer and higher than the 19 hybrid, but was less consistent.

I replaced the 18* wood with the Cobra F6 Baffler a few years back. It is a 4 wood with a shorter shaft, a bit like the new Callaway UW.

In spite of numerous flirtations with other 5 woods and low loft hybrids it is the longest lived club in my bag.

My 5 wood is 18* and my GAPR 3 is at 19*, but very different results. I might get another 20* hybrid because I'm bored.

<edit> ha, bought a Nike VRS Covert 20* with Kuro Kage 80g stiff. Should be cool.
