Ordering from GolfWorks

I'm a hobbyist builder and have ordered from Golf Works for many years. Top notch people. Exceptional customer service.

Here's an example from this past summer. I ordered a 21 degree Hyway and when I went to shaft it , the hosel was significantly under sized like they forgot the final machining step. I didn't have a drill bit hard enough to bore it out. Called Golf Works and they said to send it back and they will send me a new one. 2 days later, a new Hyway head was on my doorstep. I have not even sent mine back yet.

Have used them in the past (usually use DDG these days). Very knowledgeable people, always prompt, responsive, courteous customer service. As TallGuy90 said, they are the real deal.

Luckily this the exception with them/all the orders I’ve ever placed…

Ordered a loft/lie machine mid-August.  STILL have not received it, with latest update of shipping “around December 15th”

When you order something and it comes back “back order”, I think most assume a week or two, not months!  Standard excuses: COVID, supply chain, suppliers, yada yada yada. Then take the item down or spell it out explicitly before you take my $500.

Extremely frustrating, but like I said, the exception rather than the rule.

Ordered from them last week and had the goods very quickly.

When I lived in Northeast Ohio I used to drive down to Golfwork's facility in Newark Ohio.  Dynacraft was also in the area (back when they were independent) so that area was a hotbed of component suppliers.  Great fun!

In the days when Tom Wishon worked for Ralph Maltby and then for Dynacraft before going off to Golfsmith?

Knowledge of the Rules is part of the applied skill set which a player must use to play a round of competitive golf.

Tom was already at Golfsmith at that point.  I know he worked at Goflworks but I didn't know he also worked at Dyancraft.🤨

Actually, there's something about loft/lie machines that is for some reason problematic. Interesting story. I got new Mizzys a few months ago that I needed to get adjusted. There are two Dick's close to me. One is where my usual club guy is, but he was absolutely swamped (Dick's is having severe staffing problems). I called the other one, and they said their machine was broken, and they'd been waiting for over two months to get a new one. If even a DSG store itself (that actually owns GolfWorks for goodness sake) has significant trouble getting one, it is no surprise that a retail client like yourself will too.

I do agree, however, that they absolutely should have told you. Certainly COVID, supply chain and supplier issues aren't excuses - they are very real. However, I've noticed that most OEMs and retail chains are, in fact, being very upfront. Recently got a new Titleist driver - Titleist website itself said to expect at least two weeks. Got new Miura wedges earlier in the year, they said upfront to expect 4 - 6 weeks (though they came sooner). The days when you could order a club or set of clubs with one of the stock shafts and grips and get them within a week are at least temporarily over. Same goes for other equipment like your L/L machine. But the norm lately (in my experience) is for sellers to be very honest about this. It is, to a large extent, completely out of their control (certainly no OEM or retailer wants to disappoint customers with long delivery times), but most are now doing "expectations management", for their own sake.

IMO, anyone buying any golf gear on line should either look for expected delivery dates, or, if they are not on the website, should call and ask about it prior to pulling the trigger.

Good feedback Bob. And of course these supply chain things aren’t bogus…Long Beach looks like a ship graveyard every time I leave LAX!

Mostly just venting, as I use Golfworks almost exclusively for my purchases.  I should probably just cancel and continue to pay my local shop $5 a head for the bends…that’s a lot of adjustments to break even. 😂

Truthfully, I've occasionally entertained the idea of getting my own machine over the years. I am a club ho, fully understand getting L/L adjusted correctly is critical. It makes a huge difference. Weekenders that shoot 100 - 120? Not that important. But for anyone that wants to shoot in the 70s or 80s? Don't know a single one that doesn't make their first stop with new clubs be with a good fitter.

But I have a couple friends with machines, fiddled with them enough to know that bending clubs is as much an art as it is a science. Yes, you can go to school and get trained, but that is the barest of beginnings. It isn't like just putting a grip on. It requires good equipment, but also an instinctual feel for metal.

My go-to guy has been doing it for over 30 years. there's a lot of clubs he'll refuse to bend even though the OEM says they can be bent. He's adjusted thousands of clubs from pretty much every manufacturer, with every kind of forged metal, over the years. And is very good with his long time clients - he remembers me. He knows my swing. There is simply no chance that I - bending maybe one or two sets a year - could possibly hit his level of art and precision. And that wealth of experience reifies into all of $4 or $5 a club. A rounding error relative to the cost of the club and shaft.

Personally? To a club ho? My advice is to forget about finding the right machine, find the right fitter. He'll be worth his weight in gold. Just my $0.02

    • Sony Open Pics from January 11, 2022 Part 1
I was able to get out to the Sony Open today to take a few pics.  I guess due to Covid precautions they kept the spectators pretty far from the players.  Also due to camera restrictions they've put in place, I wasn't able to bring the big lens like I normally do. Hopefully they'll ease up on the ropes and I'll be able to get more pics tomorrow!
