.580" Grips in .600" Shafts Layers of Tape Conversion

I am in the process of building some new irons for myself as well as re-gripping all of my clubs. The shafts I am going to be using for this new set are Tour Issue Dynamic Gold X100s, whose butt diameter is .600". However, due to the rubber/grip shortage that is going on right now, I was only able to find .580" in the grip that I wanted. In addition to this issue, I also intend on trying the Bubba Watson grip approach with 12 layers of tape on the bottom hand, and 10 layers on the top hand. Thirdly, I know that installing a .580 grip on a .600" shaft will end up being thicker than if you were to install a .600" grip. So my question is this: how many less of layers of GolfWorks Grip Tape do I need to put on to achieve the exact same effect of using a .600" grip w/ the above mentioned tape layers. Thanks

Typically two layers less but depends on tape thickness. also build up tape or double side grip tape

its double sided and its just the Golf Works standard double sided tape

Don’t use double-sided tape to build up. It’s a waste of money. I could be wrong, but I doubt that’s what they use on Bubba’s grips.

Ping uses the spiral method with the 1" grip tape and they only use grip tape.

I just had .60 shafts regripped with .58 grips. I usually prefer .60 grips with two wraps and asked for one wrap on my .58 grips.  one wrap of .58 on .60 shafts feels the same at two wraps with .60 grips.

I think you're right because the video makes special mention that the 10th full wrap is done with double sided tape

would you mind interpreting the chart a little bit? It seems to me that in order that for a .600 butt diameter shaft, a .580 grip requires 2 less wraps of tape in comparison to a .600 grip w/ the same shaft

.600 -.580 = .020 = two wraps of .010 masking tape.

I have seen that video as well but its been a long time since I watched it. Thought is was normal grip tape.  Good catch.

I normally do 2 total wraps with .60 and do only one wrap total with .58 grips. My point being that you just do one less wrap than normal if subbing .58 from .60 (but that will be tough if you usually do one wrap under .60).

This seems like a lot of unnecessary work.  Why not just start with a midsize or oversize grip?
