I have been playing this game for over 20 years. I used to play pretty good about 5 years in. Life and family put a hold on golf for a few years. Started playing again, bought some new equipment along the way. To the present-now 65, have all new equipment from driver to putter, was playing a 3 piece that is no longer available(Taylormade Aeroburner Pro), and since then been playing Callaway SS($23), with some degree of success. This past summer purchased a dozen Taylormade Tour Response($35), and approach shots are great, with the ball able to hop and stop on the green. The problem is I really don't play all that good as I once did, and I lose a few a round. But I "feel" like I play much better with the TM ball!! How do I justify the difference in cost, when I still lose a couple a round?

Find an off season deal and buy 4 dozen. Helps to lessen the sting a bit.

You can look at some online testing stuff like the latest MGS test to see if there are cheaper urethane balls that might work for you.  Kirkland (basically $1 a ball), Snell, Vice, Maxfli Tour/Tour X, etc.  For some, you may have to buy in bulk to see savings.

You can look at practice and/or used urethane balls.  Used Tour Response balls can be found at well under $20 a dozen.

There may be some non-urethane balls out there that will have enough short game spin for your game.  The Tour Response is not known for being a high spin ball in any area.  You may have to experiment with different balls to find what works for you though.

I echo this.

Snell for the $$$ is the best of both worlds.

I buy "near mint" or "AAAA" used balls for less than a buck a ball usually. I tend to lose about 3 a rounds and I don't cry.

There is currently a $20 off a $100 purchase, making the price per dozen ~$21. Essentially a V1 clone, IMO a better ball than the Tour Response in pretty much every way.

Just tried to get the $20 off, it's only regular priced items only.

That said, I've gamed the v1x clone and I've been impressed. Excellent ball.

Also TP5 and TP5X practice stamped balls are abundantly available , almost always for < $20dz.

Lately they've risen in price everywhere that I used to get them.  Typically $25 a dozen now or listed as out of stock if they still show the lower price.  Please let us know if you see places that still have them in stock for less.

was about to chime in with the same.  There certainly has been some price increases on the practice balls found in the usual locations.

I think golfdiscount has tp5's for about 25 and that's as cheap as I've found for a single dozen.

In the DTC space, a 5 pack of Snell's will run you 150.  The MTB-x is tremendous.

My last purchase was from ksouth on ebay. I got them for $101 shipped for 6dz though it took a couple tries. Still is selling them.
