2021 Srixon Z-Star- comparison to others.

I'm going to try these out. I've been using Srixon Z-Stars for the most part. I was a Pro V1 guy but I struggle with the price, although they are great balls.

My only complaint about the Z-stars over the years has been a slight decrease in distance compared to the Pro V1 and lately the Bridgestone B Rx and XS.

For me, the Bridgestone balls are slightly longer than the Pro V1 and Z-star. The Z-Star and the Pro V1 have been pretty close in most performance characteristics to my eye. What has me interested in the Z-star is the potential to be like the current Pro V1 (which is an excellent performing ball, including durability) but good in the wind and less expensive.

What I liked about the Z-star was the consistency in performance. You can count on it, but like I said I felt it was 5-10 yards shorter off the tee especially and the last iteration was not very durable.

If you have been using the 2021 Z-star what are your thoughts about distance and durability?

Here you go…. As far as durability, I never had an issue with the Z Star, but the XV I have.

I've been using the 2021 Z Star for the second half of the year after playing the Tour B RX for the first half and have loved it. It's not quite as long if I do test it on a monitor but out on course I don't notice a difference. Maybe a couple of metres difference. Added bonus of spinning a bit more off the irons but holding its line well in the wind and as I'm coming into summer that's a big plus. No durability issues either. The seam does become noticeable if I use the same ball a lot (multiple rounds) and it does tend to pick up grass stains fairly easily but I haven't found it scuffs up quickly or anything like that.

For the price (~AUD$50 compared to AUD$75-85 for Pro V1s), I haven't found anything that beats it.

I always read on here that the ZStar is 5-10 yards shorter off the driver. Seems to always come-up when talking about this ball. The OP mentions it. However, every detailed ball test I've seen with data debunks this. The data hammer provides above from the 2021 mgs ball test is just another data point confirming that. Seems to me at this point this is just a myth that has been repeated so often, people now believe it.

Been playing the Z Star since the Fathers day deal

Haven't had any distance or durability issues

Really like the ball

But I like the Snell Black better

If you are concerned about price, I would recommend the Snell Ball

Closest to the Pro V1 in my experience

Just got 2 dozen with the free shipping black Friday deal

Got some to test earlier this year.   Really liked it and did not see any distance differences and if so it was due to strike.   Good feel and spin around the greens.   Only thing I didn’t like was it did show wear along the seam.    The test balls I had were from the Indonesia plant but would be curious if the balls made at the Japan plant do the same.

For me I’ve found the Z-Star, TP5, ProV1 and Tour BXS interchangeable and distance wise pretty much equal.

Curious to hear a little more on this.  How does the Snell black compare to z star?  What is it that makes you prefer Snell?

These 2 will be my next test.  Always interested to hear feedback.

I find a few more yards in distance

Better feel off the putter

Also like the yellow color better

They both stop on the greens about the same

These differences in performance are minor

Its mostly personal preference

The big difference is the price

Srixon are regularly $39.99 a doz

When the Srixon's are 2 for 3 its a deal

If you like the Srixon, you should give the Snell a try

Good Luck

Meaning an addition to the Z Star and XV in the tour ball line up?

Probably referencing the Z-Star Diamond ball (currently JDM only) that is supposed to be released in the US next year.  Some testers have received samples already.  There are a few threads floating around on the topic.

That's funny I literally found one of those about 3 weeks ago at my course. Do you know what the launch conditions on it are?
