Is a "Toe up" toe hang putter going to make a huge difference?

I sent my ER2 to Evnroll and paid a small sum to have my ER2 perfectly face balanced. It came back with the toe pointing up, maybe 8-10 degrees or so (pic doesn't do full justice). I'm fighting myself to avoid that hassle of letting them know and sending it back again (don't want to be the nit picky customer). What are the chances this will send up in an actual performance difference, and what would you guys do?

It really depends on your swing. Roll 100 putts and see what happens. 

 

If I asked for face balanced and got that...I would probably message whoever did it. They don't even make putters with toe hang like that...

Er2's are normally 1/4 toe hang so I paid them to bend a new shaft to get it to face balanced. I'll get some pics later but it looks fine at address to my eye.

I  find a toe up promotes a faster closing toe causing me to pull putts, but I use a toe hang putter pretty much exclusively. More weight in the heel I find a slower closing rate letting me come back to the ball more square.

 

Now having said that, I have a face balanced Seemor that is like yours, just a bit toe “up” and have not found it to be any issue.  I’d say notify Evnroll to make them aware of the situation but try and roll it for a while and see how it feels. It might not even be an issue.

Was my first thought. Have actually never seen a putter do what that picture shows. Someone messed up.

 

IMO, toe hang, while an obscure concept, is a seriously important variable. Depending upon whether your natural stroke is straight back to straight forward, arc to straight, or arc to arc (not sure if straight back to arc-in exists), the distribution of putter weight (i.e., toe hang) has to be adjusted. 

 

I just got a new Scotty this year (change putter less frequently than other clubs). Tried both a Newport Special Select 2.0, and a 2.5. With the 2.5, I almost always had a tendency to miss left. 

 

My natural stroke is arc to straight. Both my putter head and grip (yes, different grips - size, shape and weight - are better suited to different natural strokes) are chosen to facilitate that stroke rather than fight it. 

 

Toe hang is subtle, but has very real effects (in my experience). The pros obsess on how their putters are weighted. 

 

OP, my opinion? You took the trouble to order precise characteristics. What was delivered was not what you ordered. It might be a bother to return it or otherwise demand that you get what you ordered, but IMO it is well worth the hassle). 

 

Your putter is the single most important club in your entire bag. Somewhere around half the strokes on any scorecard will be made with that one club, and the other half with the other 13 clubs. That's just the raw numbers. It is that important, and worth obsessing on. 

 

Don't adjust your stroke to the club. Find your natural stroke, and get the club, toe hang, shaft, grip, and weight that is tuned to that stroke. "Strokes-gained-putting" may well be the most significant stat when it comes to improving one's scores.

Test drive it!!!  EDEL putters are toe up and maybe Axis.  Could be a magic bullet.  If not, you clearly have recourse if you want it. 
 

I put a gravity grip on my face balanced Tyne - it’s ever so slightly toe up now and it’s the best putter I’ve had in years!

Can I ask what grip is on the putter?  Is it the same grip as when they had it in their shop for face-balancing?  A lot of builders discount the effect that different grips can have, but I have seen drastic effects from specific grips being installed.

It's the same grip they used for balancing, haven't done a thing to the club since FedEx dropped it off earlier in the day.

Gotcha.  If you do wind up sending it back, they will be able to drop that toe by tipping the shaft a little at a time and lowering that bend point.  Not sure why they were not able to see how it sits, before they sent it out. 

Will the toe-up affect how it performs?  Only you can be the judge of that and the post that recommended you take it out, roll a hundred putts and see how it does, was spot-on.   Sometimes, we have "happy accidents" that wind up being positive changes that we never intended.

Keep us in the loop, as you give it a test run.
