Got irons fitted by Jon in August with last of the order rolling in by mid-November. While I loved my MP59s, I felt I was working too hard, yanking too many shots wildly left, and it was time for a change. Delighted with the whole experience - 2 hours of swinging, club building and completion of a supply-chain complex order across multiple vendors. My only mistake was waiting too far into the season to book my session so I didn’t have the new clubs til late in the year - I wanted to have a reasonable swing with me but then Spargo booked up fast and It took a while for clubs to arrive now.

 

Like Hollywoodtlb I wanted a proper fitting (more than a vendor’s demo day), needed to see the ball flight (flight monitor is for Jon, I need to see it), and ability to build it all. Spargo is located in a huge range in Cranston, RI. I hit nothing but 7 irons from an isolated garage bay out to a yellow flag. I’d hit three balls, Jon would check the monitor, change shaft or head, I’d take a sip of water, repeat. Pace yourself - you’ll be hitting a lot of shots. No need to swing your butt off here. Also, do not expect swing tips or lessons - everybody is different and Jon is there to fit your natural swing.

Supply chain issues had my clubs arrived in three stages over a few weeks. Mizuno irons came first, followed by Titleist utility iron (replacing my hybrid), and finally the Vokey wedges. Thrilled with the results. Never expected to end up with these shafts - all good. There is no way my local pro could’ve come up with this custom fit.

Agreed - Jon knows his stuff.   
 

My irons were last September and I wanted 921’s.   We tried everything to make them work, but at the end of the day the MMCs were better for me.   
 

My driver was fit this past Spring and I had a shaft that I wanted to use because of past success.   We tried SIM2, TSi3/4 and Cobra first… spin was out of control.    Put the same shaft into a G425 LST and it was [email protected]&$ing Magic.   
 

Jon is a great guy and a good hang for the few hours that you are there!

I'm in CT and looking for a good place to get fitted for wedges in the northeast. How was your experience with the wedge fitting here? Did you only hit off the indoor mat, and if so, do you feel like you were able to get a good feel for grind/bounce on your wedges off the mat? My main worry with getting fit for wedges is finding a place that I can hit outdoor shots so that I can see and feel some real turf interaction (which I don't think I'll be able to do anytime before April-May).

Short answer is give Spargo a call or mail a note to [email protected] He may have ideas - maybe the par 3 course can be used?? But that is better coming from him than me.

 

I did hit a few wedges from the grass in front of the hitting bay, but it didn’t help me much. I was replacing an 04 bounce 60 and wanted to see if a grind with a little more bounce off a fairway was playable for me - the grass I found was like light rough and didn’t do that for me. I did this while Jon was out of the room so I do not know if this is something Pannone condones. I hit off a mat to targets to test tighter lies (eg a green pipe at about 80 yds, a drain at about 60 yds, etc).

Also, I was there for iron/hybrid fittings and matched wedges to the irons. Jury is still out on that one - my “full” swing is great but I’m not feeling the club as well on the partials. Maybe the proper wedge fitting would’ve resolved that?? Or maybe I should practice a little bit.

I stopped at Spargo for a new putter grip and asked Steve your wedge fitting question. He said they start on the mat where all the tech measurement stuff is and try out a bunch of heads and shaft combinations. Then they walk over to the par 3 course with  a shag bag and hit into greens with different lies and even sand.
