Knee jerk? Hardly. He’s been doing this for years. As a PGA member I don’t have an issue with this. If you’re a former tour player who goes through the same process as everyone else to get PGA of America class A credentials then you’re good to go. I’d like to see more details, but the article made it seem like he could just “work” at a course and get right back in.

If they are just trying to stop Uresti, they should just have a rule that says no former PGA Tour members.  I've played a few rounds with Omar in charity events.  He's a great guy and I hope he keeps competing for the PGA club pro championship.

i guess i kinda get the spirit of having PGA pros be "working" at clubs. But i'd love to see everyone's resume then, because this kind of feels like they are targeting Uresti for being a former tour player and just being better than everyone else. Is everyone else working at courses giving lessons? I know "club pros" around here who never give lessons and are only loosely affiliated with clubs that play in these types of events or club pro tours

 

This kinda reminds me of hearing adult members whine about letting juniors play in club championships, they only tend to do this when the club has an awesome junior. Otherwise it's funny how it never comes up

He is in due to life membership, which he got from 20 years on the PGA Tour.  He has not been through the education process, nor does he work at a club.  Somehow I doubt he would be able to become eligible by simply getting a job.

If they're whining about Uresti just being "better" than everyone else, what is Uresti doing getting into the PGA championship through this route since he couldn't get in from the PGA Tour/world rankings?  I believe Neal Lancaster would also be affected by this rule, but no one names him since he hasn't pasted the field.  There are other guys who will be affected.  But read Uresti's "thoughts" on the matter, both in response to the decision this week, and to when this first came up.  He knows exactly what he's doing.

 

Bit like the reinstated pros who see the Mid-am as a backdoor to the Masters.
