Sustainable Golf Brands (No Politics)

Recommended Posts

I am not sure you can it take them seriously but, Nike, Adidas and Puma have sustainable lines in their collection. The brands themselves are the opposite of sustainable over all.

Galvin Green - is claiming they are moving in that direction.

You more have to look to small companies - Swannies is an option, GOLFINO, BN3, Ocean Tee

At the end of the day there is no shortage of clothing made by recycled plastics, which is how most companies claim they are sustainable. 😆

I think it depends on your definition of sustainability, are you referring to the company as a whole or specific items etc…

I googled this awhile back, I think Puma does the best job providing details on their website. They talk about their company policies along with a specific line of sustainable golf apparel

One easy step everybody can take is using wooden or at least biodegradable tees. I had Western Birch tees on my Christmas list this year because they look great, last forever and are biodegradable since they’re made of birch, as the name obviously suggests.

There are parts of the big brands that have elements of sustainability.

@Caledonian Golfer Do you work for Fyfe or something? You joined less than an hour ago, posted in 3 different threads, and all 3 of those posts are pushing people to look into Fyfe products 🤣.

I have looked at recycled footwear and I use plastic tees. They aren't biodegradable, but in over 100 rounds I have lost about 4 and I'm sure whoever found them likely got use as well.

Inesis 100 balls are made from recycled materials.

Ha, just coincidence. I am scottish so a bit bias towards Scottish brands.

Forgot to mention Ocean Tee for anyone looking for non plastic tees.

Cotton golf shirts are easy to find.  Clothes allegedly made from plastic bottles are (literally almost, lol) a dime a dozen, well until you include the markup for being eco friendly.

Looking for "sustainable practices" is pretty much a "skin deep" kind of exercise.  You know what they want you to know and dive deep enough there is something at some level not "sustainable" going on.

Somewhere someone is pouring black smoke into the air to make the rubber tires for my older LeMond bicycle.

But, if you can find something that has extra value for whatever reason go for it.

Does Fyfe do anything golf - seems like more the Orvis of the UK, or maybe Orvis is the Fyfe of the U.S., lol.

Don't get me wrong, I love tweed and pretty much anything Scottish, including single malt. 😉

Single malt 🤤

I guess the headcovers are obviously for golf 😀...the rest I guess could be for colder weather golf or for outdoors.

Dont know Orvis...will take a look.

I guess in the US you guys have Seamus which is all Scottish wools etc.

I don't know any brands specifically but from an end consumer the best thing to do is buy high quality stuff, wash it properly and take care of it.  Find stuff that lasts a long time, thats more sustainable than any link on a website

He hit it right on the head. Cheap but "sustainable" isn't the key. Buying 'once for life' is how it should be considered.

The sentiment of buy for life is great, but it's more nuanced than that alone

I dont know many cheap sustainable products.

If you want to buy sustainable products you have to look at 3 key points:

1. Materials. Most products in golf are made from polyester.  Most golf polos are made from this. Most Beanie bobble hats are made from acrylic. You can buy cotton but unless its certified organic from GOTS the cotton will have been grown using fertilisers.  Petroleum derived and chemically derived product have much higher greenhouse gas emissions than natural fibres such as wool...so look for organic, natural materials.

2. How and where its made: factories using renewable energy sources...and supply chains that are closer to home. The less miles the product has to travel, the less emissions. Buy from local producers where you can.

3. End of life. Is the product biodegradable so it doesn't end up in a landfill? Goes back to materials....natural fibres will biodegrade....plastic derived fibres will not.

In addition to this does the brand have a clear pathway to being carbon neutral through it's own activity...

Buy less, buy better, play more golf

I will second this.  Only tees I use, I just got my black box in the mail with 250 tees and valuables pouch.  all great quality.

... I ordered 3 Radmor shirts several weeks ago but due to Christmas they took forever to get here. Finally got them today and have to admit I am a little disappointed. The company is awesome and I am happy to support them. These shirts might be the most comfortable I have ever worn. VERY soft feeling like a combination of the best of Cotton and Polyester rolled into one shirt. My issue is they run small and are pretty tight. I am in good shape so they are fine with my flat belly but the sleeves are shorter than any golf shirt I have ever worn and the chest and shoulders are a little tight.

... All in all not a bad thing but playing golf in Phoenix around 5 days a week for a full year now, I have some very distinctive tan lines even wearing sunscreen everyday so the look is less than ideal with a deep tan and several inches of lilly white skin before the sleeves appear. At least it will match my white belt. 🤣

  • 3 weeks later...

Callaway has the Eco line which apparently uses old water bottles.

Black Quail Apparel has a few recycled material items. Just have to look at each, their site is pretty bad.

Travis Matthew has a few Eco options with recycled polyester.

I'm sure others know more than I do but these were not mentioned.

I don't know about their corporate stance, but Ping irons seem to last much longer than other brands - particularly when compared with forged irons. Putters last virtually forever. I presently play a Ping Scottsdale Anser Beryllium Nickel that's about 25 years old.
