Not a fan of people fixing ball marks for you...

Curious to see if I am the only one that gets annoyed when people fix ball marks for you. Usually happens with casual golfers I have never played with. They typically don't tell you when they do it so you are wandering around the area questioning everything you have ever known...  Note: I fix way more marks than just my own, just a funny scenario that drives me insane.

Surprised about the instant pushback, talked about this with a couple friends and it was unanimous that it is really annoying when people keep fixing your ball mark before you get to the green.

I'll tell you what annoys me . . . when people say "Nice shot." Just who in blazes do they think they are to judge me? 😲

ps When they repair my ball mark, I sincerely say, "Thanks." 😀

I always say thanks. Usually I'm not there to say thanks when they do it.

I agree with you!   This isn't about refusing help, but it's insulting that they don't
feel like you will fix it.   While they are being nice/helpful, real manners from
"How to win friends and Influence People" training, will allow others the
initial opportunity to perform their own responsiblity.

More technical and inside golf, serious/smart golfers want to see how quickly their
ball stopped. It's useful info for the next similar shot.

So before repairing the course for someone, give them the chance to do it, since
they may be more serious and better about it than you.

Most of the time it drives me nuts.  Not because they did a nice thing for me, but that they usually make a mess of the repair and I know that in 1-2 days there will be an ugly dead spot from their good intentions.   If I’m playing with someone who I know will fix it properly, they can do that all day long and fix as many as they want.

Are you a slow player? Perhaps they are trying to help you move along? I'm not sure how else you're going to explain them consistently being on the green before you and having time to fix your mark with you not being close enough to see them do it

I play at a very popular course so I get paired with random people a lot. I hit it way further (not trying to brag) than most I randomly get paired with. Always the last one to get to the green because I walk a lot.

People just trying maintain the course.

I try to fix 2 or 3 pitch marks besides my own on every green if it doesn’t hold up play.

Sorry if I fixed yours too, no offense intended.

Several courses have signs asking you to fix your ball mark and another one. Two of the leagues I play in are notorious for not repairing marks so I’m pretty much in the habit of fixing any mark I see. That it may bother someone has never entered my mind.

Specifically why does it bother you? You can see where the mark was so you know what your ball did after hitting. I don’t understand what is to be lost or gained by someone else fixing it.

I always fix any mark I see. I think it is an OCD/anxiety thing when I can't find my own mark.

I used to occasionally play with a guy who couldn't putt if someone was holding the flag to put it back in the hole when the rest were done putting (it once was, that the 1st player to putt out got the flag and was ready to replace it once all were done).   Kinda weird, but we humoured him by leaving it on the ground.  Odd note: he had a perfect Ballard Swing.  Didn't have a clue who Ballard was.

I fix my ball mark and if it’s not time to putt usually wander around and fix any I notice.  Never crossed my mind that it might bother someone if I fixed “their” ball mark.  Never considered leaving it for them.  If I notice someone looking for a mark I do try to give them a heads up if I fixed one in the vicinity.

I do it often because it speeds up play.

If I get to the green first, I will fix a few of the noticeable marks.

If the other player is looking around I just say "Already got it!"

This can't be a legit problem can it??? Just say thank you and fix another ball mark on two on the green.

As I am heading towards my ball on the green, I will fix ball marks as I come across them.  If one happens to be yours, I am truly sorry.
