Most gimmicky equipment/bag?

We’ve all seen the ads. If one was to construct a bag with the most gimmicky clubs, what would that look like? And for a mid capper, what do you think the potential strokes gained would be over a conventional bag?

I found this article where someone actually tried & reviewed some of them: https://practical-golf.com/golf-infomercial-products-exposed/

Here’s my attempt:

Driver: Hammer X

FW: GX-7

Utility: Original Adams Tight Lies

Irons: some sort of single length hybrid iron set if it exists??

Wedge: Original Alien or PureSpin diamond face

Chipper: Square Strike or that latest triangle-face thing I saw on Golf Channel the other day

Putter: Tru-Roll cylindrical

Ball: any as long as it is balanced using the Check Go Pro

If anyone wants to fess up and admit to owning any of these or other infomercial clubs, let’s hear your take!

I guilty of the ball balancer, Alien sand wedge and a chipper as experiments, they never lasted in the bag. I built a set of System 5000 hybrid irons, 4-PW 15-20 yrs ago. I played a 2nd tier single length (traditional iron head) 4 years ago (won league team championship with them).

I have a TM SLDR Mini. It is not a gimmick, it works well has a tee club, used it when my rebuilding my 460cc driver swing after it went south one year. I am back to a 460cc driver.

I found a Polara straight ball, played it, nothing to write home about, and lost it in woods.

The only gimmick club I back 100% is the Cleveland Golf Smart Sole sand wedge (58°). I only use it out of a bunker or if in deep rough with a hazard between ball and green. For me it works.

So funny you mention that because I pulled mine out yesterday because it is super wet here in TN and it worked great. No chance of digging and just really easy to hit half shots with. Don't love the feel and hate the look but it is very effective in certain conditions.

Only gimmick club I ever had was an old chipper thing. I got pretty good with it really quick.  Then played with a good high school player and when I went to use it for the first time that day he giggled and said "dude, is that a chutter?" The next and last time I touched it was to throw it in the corner of shame in the basement.  OP, only thing I would change about your gimmick bag would be the putter.  Must have an S7K stand alone putter.  Why? Because you are sure you have the correct line EVERY SINGLE TIME, that's why.

Good call. I was thinking about the standup putter after my post.

I learned how to golf with not only a Chipper, but a 2-Way Chipper!! 🤣🤣

Dropped that thing from the bag last season, and learning how to chip without it was an absolutely horrendous process…so brutal!

I work part time doing club repair and actually had a guy bring me one of these to regrip.  Never Compromise Stubby.  He said he has been using it as his gamer for over 10 years.  I spent a good amount of time getting the grip on exactly square because of how tiny the blade was for alignment, handed it to him to check, and he immediately twisted it at least 10* off to one side.  All I could do is shrug, as long as he's happy with how it feels, customer is always right!

The Smart Sole wedge and wedges of that ilk are fantastic and will always have a home in my bag...they just flat out work. In my  opinion they are not even close to gimmick as they are awesome!

Found one of these on our course around the sixth hole.  Hit a few chips around the greens and it was impossible for me to control.  I see how it helps you get the ball up and going in the general direction but the face just felt too hot to control.  Turned it in at the turn and the cart guys knew exactly who it belonged to.

Unless the chutter is full.

Obviously, the classy route for a gimmicky bag is as many Bobby Jones Jesse Ortiz clubs as they made.
