Did any folks here notice Leona Maguire's interesting club choice i.e. 6-hybrid, at the 18th hole par 3 (158 yards)? @Rapidcat?

Her strongest iron is a 7 for this event.

Toggles between a 7i & 6h or 6i depending on her requirements

Re Leona, doesn't love the course, travel issues from Florida to Spain, clubs went missing in transit, she only got them back for the Pro-Am......she did well considering.

Will she break into the top 10 world ranking from this event (she finished 4th)?

Logically, she should.  However she's pretty far away from Nasa (3.73 vs. 4.20); she wouldn't crack Top-10 even with a win!

Thanks, hoped you'd reply!

Yuna Nishimura finished T4 at the last 2022 JLPGA event Sunday in Japan.  I assume she's on a flight to Alabama to get ready for 2022 LPGA Q-Series.

Yuna and Hae Ran Ryu; Top-5 player at JLPGA and KLPGA respectively, are the only two Rolex Top-75 players that I'm aware who will tee off this coming week.  Hae Ran, on the other hand, has been in the US since November 22.

Good luck to both of them!

Have always said in the past that Yuna should be able to make it (just a matter if she'd like to be in the US or not - I had it on some list buried now somewhere out there LOL).

the mighty mite may not drive the ball far but she's pretty damn good with offsetting it with long irons (and odd numbered woods).  No different than Tom Kim in the PGA (who's strength is in course management and his long irons, relative to the field/competition).   Would be surprised (shocked actually) if Yuna doesn't finish well here (like Hinako and Ayaka in 2022. )

Yuna is about the same height as Ayaka Furue; but Ayaka seemed to be the more accomplished of the two.  Care to comment about the pros and cons between the two?

Ayaka is the better putter (putting wins) - simply put(t)...

But if you want to dig deeper, Ayaka and Yuna (along with Yuka Yasuda) were all Japan Natl Teammates in the past with differing successes after they turned pro.  They all went different golf academies prior to that  (with differing emphasis on how they trained - there's quite a few videos about it in Japan)- which could partly explain the differences.

Finally, (and this is personal observation rather than factual), Ayaka seems to train harder and is more focused on golf, relative to Yuna (who has other things happening in her life other than golf) - nothing wrong with that... It's like comparing Hinako and Yuka (Saso), Hinako has baseball as a past time, Yuka Saso is all golf...

What a wonderful season indeed. Including the 6 LPGA events, 4 top 10's and taking 8th place in the ROY race with only 6 events played.

Two important questions loom now for Linn.

1. Will she go against her will and get vaxxed, so she can enter the States for the 2023 LPGA season?

2. If she does, can she continue to make waves over here? There's been a few players who have killed it on the LET, but barely made a splash on the LPGA.

I played a 6h for a few years. I should probably put it back it the back. 'Crazy easy to hit. It was my 175 yd club, so playing into the wind, and choking down an inch would produce an easy 160.

You sold me at "crazy easy to hit", I'm searching now, as my 6i is a son of a witch.👍

Same here.  I have a 6i and 6h that I toggle back and forth depending on course and conditions.  Easier to flight the 6i under the wind.  Easier to hit the 6h on a normal old age/arthritis day.

Poor Yuka, what's happened to her!

I always expected Yasuda was going to be the better Yuka among the two Yuka's (Saso.)

Agree. I dunno why Yuka Yasuda is struggling so much these days - even missing JLPGA qseries cut line initially, if I recall right… she’s yet to play well enough for me to hear even the odd commentaries from Japanese media… at this rate, she’s been overtaken by Miyu Yamashita etc… even Saki Baba is prolly better than her at this point

Rose Zhang should get a similar deal from LPGA, but as a sophomore:

Top college senior could soon earn direct path to the PGA Tour

"One proposition would see the No. 1 player in the PGA Tour U’s Velocity Global Ranking at the conclusion of the NCAA Championship receive a PGA Tour card. "

Why should Rose earn this as a sophomore? Because you want her to?

Almost seems like the point of the program is to see these kids finish college...not bail out early.

Lydia's divisor dropped from 57 to 56 unexpectedly; which speeds up her ascent to #1:

She survived a 5 year long trip to Helen Back.

@18majors you pointed it out in an earlier post Lydia could go to #1 before next year.....I am surprised the LPGA did not know Lydia would become RR#1 this week knowing Nelly and Lydia were not playing last week if they know how the RR points system works....which I assume the LPGA do. I don't see how anyone could argue that Lydia is not currently best female player in the world and it's great to see her back again as RR#1 🙂
