Early Spring Alternative to Myrtle Beach

Happy New Year!

 

I've been organizing a 4-day trip (usually for 4, last year was 😎 to Pawley's Island late March/early April the last five years and this year I'm seeking recommendations for an alternate location.

We fly from Boston to MB on Wed, play Wed - Sat and fly home Sat night. Stay at a 4-BR condo at Litchfield and play all of the courses in that area. It's a great value at under 1K including airfare and easy to book with the Litchfield folks. We enjoy the restaurants and ending up at the PIT at night.

 

We're open to going late Feb - early April. Prefer mid-60s or above as the goal is to escape the MA winter. Would like to keep it around 1K but are flexible. We're 10 - 20 handicaps.

 

I've briefly looked at Pinehurst area. My ultimate goal is to get to Kiawah in the near future (I'm a little obsessed) and have been thinking a lot about the Winter package (ends Feb 28) or to do a combo Kiawah/MB.

 

AZ has been mentioned but from the research I've done the courses are $200 - 300 alone that time of year and airfare is not inexpensive.

 

I appreciate any recommendations/advise.

Fly to Birmingham and play the Trail (RTJ golf trail) or head up to Oneonta and play Limestone Springs. If you plan for end of March you should be ok. That will be far more economical than AZ or Myrtle.

If the last 5 years in MB were all at Litchfield, maybe you are tired of that 
spot and should try another MB location, to play fresh courses.   
  
You could try Pinehurst, but that can be more expensive than MB, especially 
if you play Pinehurst Resort. 
  
A shorter flight and possible drive destination is Ocean City, Maryland. 
It's like a mini Myrtle Beach with 17 courses.  Temps might be borderline 
to be 60+ and not as warm as MB on the same date, but might work if 
around April 1.       
 
Wherever you go, you could save some $$ by including Mon-Wed, which 
often have lower golf rates, at least in MB.      
  
MB golf rates are up in 2022 and probably at every other
popular golf destination.

Or even fly to Birmingham and play Ballantrae and  Timberline (both are less $ than Oxmoor Valley and waaaay less money than Ross Bridge and more fun) and then drive to Pursell Farms. PF is my favorite golf course I have ever played. Secluded, well conditioned but also forgiving and fair. If you can't have a good time at PF you might not like golf.

For many years, I went to Myrtle in Feb with 20 guys.  We went to Orlando one year instead, and to Tampa another year.  Florida golf was comparable, weather was better, restaurants were equal, nightlife was lacking. Cost was a bit higher, but not bad.  It depends upon your group.  Lots of alternatives for golf cost & quality but for party animals Myrtle is hard to beat.
