Companies invest heavily in building and promoting these trademarks.

 

If you think about it, there are only so many names that are a great fit for a golf line. It has to be a short word. It has to have some implied meaning without being overly specific. The letters have to lend themselves to being formed into a logo that looks balanced.

 

And you have to be able to trademark it so it can't have been used for a car line or some other product. 

 

It's probably a shorter list of words than one might think.

I would really like to "like" callaway drivers but I just am not a fan of the look. My last effort was with the first Epic and I have just never gone back. With that said, I have plenty of buddies at the club that love their callaway drivers!

I'm going to attempt a brand agnostic fitting in a couple of months, but I'm kidding myself and I'm almost certain to end up with one of these.

 

It'll be interesting to see what the best fit will be coming from a 10.5* Mavrik SZ Triple Diamond.

 

I've been thinking about bumping down to 9* of loft to try and increase ball speed a bit. So, the higher launch of the Max might actually make sense. Visually though I think I like the looks of the Max LS better (based on photos only).

 

I wonder what the differences are between the TD LS, TD and TD S that we've seen on the conforming lists. I know Xander has an S and Emma Talley posted a photo with the TD last night.

I'm sure it'll perform, but it looks like a poor release for Callaway just a bit bland to me.

I'm happy Callaway released the Triple Diamond at launch. I think the styling and color choices are solid.

You can't discount the amount of innovation that came online about 5-6 years ago with the computer-designed faces and extreme discretionary weight placement using newer materials. Drivers look quite similar but under the hood they've changed a ton in the last decade. 

 

Second, the ability to adjust the hosel for lie and loft is a giant innovation that allows for better fitting for most players. 

 

Finally, it's clear that designers are limited by the marketplace's cosmetic expectations. They went down the road of square frames and offset hosels and other stuff that may well have helped a ton of players hit it longer and straighter, but those products largely failed in the marketplace because people weren't willing to use clubs so different from their playing partners.

 

Looks are obviously VERY important in the success of a new club line. There's only so far you can push it.

With limits on COR/CT it makes it very hard to make big advances in drivers.  IMO the biggest true advance in tech has been Callaways jailbreak with the original Epic.  Since then it's been a series of refinements.  TM and the carbon face is another incremental improvement.  Only so much guys can do, especially year to year.  I fully acknowledge that I change drivers simply because i'm bored and want something new and cool. Its not really a performance thing for me.

Same here. Love the matte black crown. Wish it didn't have the gold at the back -- I'm good with the gold on the bottom but would prefer not to have it on the top -- but it's still really nice. 

 

I love the Epic Max LS, which is my current driver. It seems like the Max LS version is shaped a little differently this time, perhaps closer to the Speed from last year's Epic line? Hard to tell without side-by-side photos. But I'm wondering if maybe the regular Max is a little closer to last year's Max LS in terms of shape.

Still waiting to see these Callaway drivers offer any advantage over the current models. For that money and so called new tech I want to see a difference worth shelling out my hard earned cash.

I typically don't like the Callaway aesthetic.  This is a step in the right direction.  I would take this for a spin.

I think those ports generally have been just visual. I recall a few exploded/component views and they've not lined up. They might have some purpose weight-wise, but for those expecting little bars going up from the sole to the crown, they'll be a bit disappointed.

The Jailbreak device *is* attached, just not necessarily  in the places suggested by the exterior details, right?

correct. usually the jailbreak bars are closer to the face.

Funny part seeing the inside, the silver jailbreak studs on the sole are just cosmetic, as you can see they protrude inside the sole several millimeters away from the jailbreak frame itself. Callaway would have you believe the studs are the bottom of said frame itself!
