Nailed. It.

Even for a club ho, 600 for a driver and 430 for a fw is insane. Add an upgraded shaft at 250 per. Typically, I'd have my preorder in that this point. Now, I'm reading more and more into Rogue ST and others just to save a few bucks. I've played a TM driver and every release since '16 M1 to SIM2 and most recent 0811XT. I wonder at what price point will sales start to flatten and TM decides volume over margins.

It seems reasonable to me to choose a driver company and commit, especially if there's a shaft you know and love. I've used Callaway's since the Fusion and basically just kept the shafts that worked with me along the way. It would take a lot for me to swap brands at this point. Considering that all the brands are using computers to design their heads these days I figure they all wind up in pretty much the same place anyway.

I do work in Golf retail and as of yesterday my store location has only preordered 3 Stealth Carbon woods since the preorder date of 1/4.

wow interesting.   Well based on what other so called "experts" in this thread are saying they think TM will dominate sales.  Which I disagree with myself.

It’s January.  Only wrxers are preordering clubs at this point. Let’s see what the other 99% end up buying by the end of the year.

Still with all the hype, drivers at GG, Dicks, PGA Superstores for people to test, I would have assumed more.

Does anybody know if the Tungsten Speed Cartridge is going to be user replaceable/swappable? I have a veritable army of the Callaway weight screws, and I can't help but wonder if we could be better served with just a typical weight port in the trailing edge vs the marketing schtick that is the Tungsten Speed Cartridge.

It makes it sound like we're playing on an N64. Does it hit it straighter if you remove it, blow it out, and put it back in?

The TSC spreads the weight across a larger area than the screw style weight. Callaway will have the weight available come April.

I asked this question in another thread. It’s not designed to be replaceable. The screws on the tungsten cap are tamper “proof”. If you look at the hi definition closeups you can see the pin in the middle of the screw which will prevent standard torx wrench from getting in there. Of course the correct wrench can be bought for just a few bucks so I’m sure some folks will be cracking it open. I too would love the added adjustability of an extra weight to play but will let others be the guinea pigs before I attempt to crack my own open.

2nd swing just did a live test of all the new models out against each other using the same shaft.

It's long, but worth watching. Cobra litdixles had the longest drive but probably the worst dispersion. Rogue st max had bad dispersion too. Cobra ltdx was solid. Rogue st max la was solid as was the triple diamond. Both stealths were solid as well and had the best dispersion. Stealth+ was best in dispersion by far. It was also the only head he couldn't quite square up so his spin rate was up around 2500 vs high teens for pretty much every other driver. He's not optimally fit in any of the heads. Everything is way too low spin except the stealth+ and he even noted that he needed to put stealth+ in upright to help close the face more.

overall, good test and shows the drivers are all very, very close. Also showed me what I figured with that cobra litdixels...it won't be good for dispersion. However, I'd like to see that tests repeated with all drivers in better spin ranges

Went to my local shop and was able to hit some ball today.....in Michigan, so snow on the ground, but covered/heated bay....no numbers to give, but was able to hit the Max LS.  It looks a little shorter front to back from the Epic, but still a really good shape and similar to the Epic Max LS, which is a good thing for me.....Sound seemed to be a little more muted compared to Epic, but it was really nice sounded, and seemed to have a little more pop to the face vs Epic......I hit quite a few balls to really give it a chance to suck........it didn't!!  Big fan for initial impressions..

This is awesome. Is the forgiveness on par with the Epic Max LS, even though the head doesn't look quite as long front to back?

I loved the Epic Max LS -- best driver of last year for me by far -- and frankly would upgrade just for the matte finish, which was my only major cosmetic complaint. I don't mind giving up the sliding weight, since I always kept it pretty central anyway. That said ... the reviews of the standard Rogue ST Max model have shown higher-speed players keeping the spin really low and playable, so I'm not ruling that one out either.

There are plenty of early indications of which company is likely to sell more drivers this year. (To be clear, this does NOT mean the top-selling driver is the “best” driver.)

— Social media gives us at least a very basic glimpse at how much interest there is in golf products. Rick Shiels posted reviews of the Rogue ST Max and the Stealth on the same day. The Stealth review has 1 million views; the Rogue ST Max review has 435K.

— 2nd Swing’s “Swing Report”: 21K viewers for the Stealth video; 11K for the Rogue ST video.

— A quote straight from Michael Newton’s video that posted today: “Since the embargoes have lifted, everybody who’s coming in — everybody’s asking about the TaylorMade. Nobody’s asking about Callaway. Very, very few, indeed.”

— Two quotes from *that other site’s* recent article with a series of staff predictions for 2022. First: “Young believes Stealth will prove to be a milestone in TaylorMade history. It’s an easy lock for the No. 1 position in the retail market; the only question is by how much.”

And second: “Nickel thinks the company will eclipse a 50-percent share of the metalwood/carbonwood market. Covey believes that may be unrealistic given supply chain issues but the impact of Stealth could force competitors into early discounts—something that seemed unfathomable just a few weeks ago.”

— TXG didn’t post on the same day, so it’s somewhat apples to oranges, but their views show more interest in the Stealth so far. 103K to date have watched their initial review of the Stealth and 72K watched their Stealth fitting video; 21K watched their livestream with Callaway reps on launch day and 44K have watched their Triple Diamond LS vs. Max LS video.

None of this stuff is a perfect indicator. But it’s not nothing, either.

Listen, I’m going to order a Rogue ST tomorrow. I think it looks incredible — they’ve addressed my only major cosmetic complaints with recent models, and the reviews are great. I’m especially impressed with how higher-speed reviewers have kept spin down with the forgiving Max models. I think it’s gonna be a great series of drivers for Callaway. I think Cobra’s look super impressive too, for what it’s worth. But expecting other companies to keep up with TaylorMade this year does not seem realistic.

Got to hit it with the rep and at least for me the Rogue was 1-2 mph faster speed. I think the Carbon face interests people and most people think it will get hotter over time like carbon bats do. We will see!!!

Great post.

Callaway needs to solve their issue with models available. "Why do I need a rogue when the epic speed came out last year and has moveable weight tech"...that's the burning question in my mind. No other OEM releases product like they do. They are car manufacturers from the 90s...

General Motors had about 6 brands who all put out mid size cars. They cannibalized their own sales because they had too many models being released that were the same car with a different body style.

Ford too...just a bit less than GM.

You guys do realize Callaway does over 1billion more in revenue than TM

lol

its hysterical to hear how TM is gonna blow cally out of the water

Does that include Topgolf, TravisMathew, Ogio, Jack Wolfskin, Five Iron Golf, etc.?

Again, none of this has anything to do with which driver is *best* this year. But lots of industry experts and golf media types have said they expect TaylorMade to lead the way in driver sales this year and I haven't really seen anybody suggest Callaway will keep pace. I don't really get why that's a controversial statement.

Didn't hit enough, or side by side to give that type of determination.    Hadn't swung a club in a few weeks, so even more hard to say.

It seemed very reliable and never had any that went out of whack.....from memory, it felt a little more solid and had a little more pop to it.

Will hope to hit it a few more times over the next few weeks as they starting arriving and better dial in.

Can anyone who’s looked at the new Rogue ST Max tell me if the face angle is slightly closed? As we know it’s supposedly got slight draw bias but on watching the on line reviews some have said it’s also got a closed face angle……but others (Mike Newton for example) have said it sits neutral/straight.

If it is slightly closed at address I would hope the LS isn’t……but for now I’ve ordered the ST Max but will have to change it if they do sit closed at address as I hate that!

I have hit both the TD LS and the MAX but haven't seen the MAX LS in person yet.  So the TD LS is dead square with a 57* lie compared to the MAX at 59*. Didn't really see a closed face on the MAX but could see a lot of face on the 10.5*.  So that why the MAX and MAX D are much easier to hit draws with is the extreme upright heads. MAX D is 60*.

This morning I received a text from my buddy Connor at my club letting me know their Callaway rep dropped by with their box of demo clubs. Ten minutes later I was at the club with my gamer shaft the Tensei Pro 1K 60S and a prospective gamer shaft in the Diamana TB 70S. I had the privilege of tearing off the wrapper on all the heads except the Max D heads and Max 12° head. With GC Quad dots in place, I spent over an hour at the club testing the new Rogue ST making 110 driver swings.

I started my testing with PW 1K 60S. Starting with the Max heads, my best numbers came from the 9° in -1/N however the face angle seemed to be a fraction closed to my eye so Max heads were back to the rack. I think the Max 10.5° with a -2 sleeve would be darn near ideal however I currently don’t have a shaft with a -2 tip on it. Next up was the Max LS 9°. It was a step in the right direction. Numbers were excellent. Forgiveness was top notch however the look at address wasn’t quite ideal to my eye. Enter the Max LS 10.5° in -1/N. This set up looked “right” the second I put it behind the ball. With the look I like now in my hands, my confidence blossomed. I hit more balls with the 10.5° turned down than the first 3 heads. At one point I nutted one and let out a giggle followed by “Mikey likes it!”. Last up was the TD LS 10.5° in -1/N. This arrangement was instantly familiar to me since I’ve gamed the Speed TD 10.5° last year. My confidence was riding high coming off the Max LS testing and it showed. I hit so many solid shots with Rogue ST TD LS. When I had my fill, I couldn’t help but appreciate the high levels of performance and forgiveness baked into all the models tested. But I believe Callaway has a unicorn in Max LS and I feel the TD LS isn’t too far behind! My numbers with Max LS and TD LS were very close across the board.

I made 10 swings with each Max LS 10.5° -1/N and TD LS 10.5° -1/N with Diamana TB 70S. I was amazed at how similar the averages were to the same set ups using my 1K shaft. Dispersion moved slightly left of center with TB while the 1K fell just right of center. Both uber playable however I prefer a straight to fade flight.

I’m going back in a few days to test the 10.5° in -1/N to see if a clear winner can be determined. That said, I’d happily buy both heads and alternate.

Quick question is the triple diamond  more fade bias than the max ls?

Ever so slightly for me when I tested both with my gamer shaft.

Thanks for that. Forgot to take account of the respective lie angles but I think I maybe need to see the clubs in the flesh to see how they look......or I just swap my order into the Max LS.

I was just messing around on the Cally site and see the Ventus is a no upcharge shaft, I am going to call and confirm that 1st thing this morning. Any idea if it is a velecore model?

The no up charge option is the non-Velocore version that Taylormade had in the SIM Max line.  If you scroll down in the list you will see the real Velocore options have (Velocore) in the description.

Excited to see they have the new Velocore TR listed as an option.

closed to who? Completely subjective my friend. What one sees is not the same as another - eye dominance, grip, addressing is all in the eye of the beholder.

Well the majority of reports/reviews I have seen suggest that the MAX does have a closed face angle and whilst agree there is some subjectivity to it I personally would not entertain any Driver (or fairway) with the possibility of a closed face angle at address as my own miss is a hook.

And here in the UK getting see a selection of actual clubs before a pre-order is really not easy at all......so if you want to commit now for an order you do have to rely on the reviews and any findings from fellow Golf WRX members.
