Portugal 2023 trip

Finishing up the plans for my groups upcoming trip to Portugal next year. Would love any feedback from anyone who has played the courses we have planned. 
 

Day 1 Arrive in Lisbon Drive to Camp Real to play round 1 then drive to our rental house in Praia D’el Rei

 

Day 2 Play Royal Obidos

Day 3 Play West Cliffs

 

Day 4 Play Praia Del R’ei

 

Day 5 Play West Cliffs

 

Day 6 Off day Visit Peniche and Obidos

 

Day 7 Play Praia D’el Rei

 

Day 8 Play West Cliffs

 

Day 9 Drive to Lisbon and fly home.

Looks like you tallied off a lot of the courses I was looking at.

Oitavos Dunes near Lisbon is also worth a look. I played it a couple of years ago and enjoyed it a lot. Some spectacular views of the Atlantic and very well maintained. Fast running type of links course.

I’m still looking at swapping Campo Real for Oitavos Dunes, but waiting until we get closer to decide. Last reviews I had read said the conditioning had really went downhill. I also may take the drive and play Troia even though it’s a little out of the way drive wise… Have you played either lately?

I played West Cliffs and Royal Obidos in the first week of May 2022. I played my round at Royal Obidos with a member at Praia Del R'ei and I'm sorry I didn't get the chance to play there. The back 9 is supposed to be phenomenal. 

 

West Cliffs

• Requires accuracy off the tee
• Rugged and beautiful
• Greens are grainy and tough
• Windy

Royal Obidos

• Requires accurate approach shots
• Resort course
• Too many water hazards limited the variety of shots into the greens.

I thought the conditions were great, however the greens weren't nearly as fast as I expected.

I guess with the wind possibilities they can’t get them too fast. Looking at some of the videos of West Cliffs it looks like they have got quite a bit of slope as well.
