Club champion acquires TXG (merged)

Txg might have had some bad luck?

 

They were expanding with new locations. That's a good bit of cash to put out.  Then the pandemic hit and not much cash coming in. Unfortunate timing.

Doesn't surprise me.  The industry is at record high revenue and profit levels so it makes sense for the acquisition.  I'm sure Ian cashed in with some control to stay and make as much or more than he was taking from the business already.

It would be an interesting acquisition.  I know a few of the guys who worked there through the industry and they always wanted to expand out of just Toronto.  I wonder if this is their way of doing it.  I know they aren't hurting for money so it's not a buyout in the sense they were starving for cash type of thing.  It also could just be a partnership.  Another local fitting studio in the area was pseudo-partnered with Cool Clubs but I am not sure if that is still a thing or not.  It was listed o the site a few years ago but I haven't checked since.

Will Ian and team be traveling and training their fitters?  Kicking out substandard ones?   

 

That is the only way this is a win.  There are good fitters at Club Champion, there are also completely trash and useless ones.  I have only visited one, and from a friend found a good one there.  However the vast majority of experiences I have seen on WRX says there are a bunch of bad ones out there.  Now WRX is a minority, and maybe there are some really good ones in a bunch of places.

 

All of this without even remotely touching the club pricing and stories I have heard of people being pushed into NON available custom shaft options, so they either are ordered separate or have to be ordered through CC.  In essence making sure people can't just call (OEM Name Here) and ordering a stock custom shaft option.

It is a fact, someone I know and trust has texted with Ian directly.

Their (TXG) Instagram story implies it’s not a rumor.  
 

Why else have the CC logo appear?

Yeah, their Instagram story is pretty good confirmation that they're in business with CC. It would make sense for CC to purchase them.

 

Quite frankly, I don't see a whole lot of difference in the services offered. I mean, they both will fit you into Accra shafts.

Ewwww gross.

 

I'm sure theyre keeping Matt/Ian on as a face to smooth the transition and keep doing YT videos or etc to make it seem like 'all is well' for a short while, at least.

 

Hopefully Ian is smart enough to only sign a short non-compete and then he can move onto another similar venture which will again be a high quality top tier fitter rather than what CC provides...or will inevitably turn TXG into.

Rumors have it that club champion has acquired TXG and will make any announcement tomorrow. Anyone have updates.

Looks like TXG is going to have an overnight epiphany that Oban iron shafts and VA Composite wood shafts are... and have been... the best shafts players across the board...for years.

I think where I see this going, and I could be wrong.

 

CC is just going to use TXG as it's video arm for content, so that they have something like 2nd Swing does with Thomas.  That way there's no investment into starting up a video production.  

 

Obviously there could be more to it from the fitting aspect, but I see that as the chief purpose here.

Edit: Good for Ian and the crew at TXG, they're the best. Probably not good for people trying to get fit by TXG/TXG folks, but I guess we'll see how it shakes out.

Odd acquisition unless CC wanted to get into Canada. Txg is ian. Yeah, they have other fitters, but there is only 1 ian.

This is what I was thinking ....  TXG has a following like no other on YouTube and CC basically bought that along with Ian's credibility.

Funny...I didn't even know about the Pinehurst trip/fitting.  Ironic though.

After all...99.9% radial quality isn't good enough.  Easily 10 yards left on the table.

They used VA as that is who offered the shafts for free as a giveaway! Why not take free stuff to give as the big offer was the trip to Pinehurst, vs. a full bag fitting like in their first big giveaway.

I'm glad Ian and company got paid.  That's the reason you take a massive risk and build a business.

 

That said, I'm extremely disappointed as I've had a couple fittings at CC and have regretted each one.  Very much a sales organization.  Not a fan.
