Club champion acquires TXG (merged)

Hahaha I just saw the two most recent videos with Matt back and what a stark difference. Did they notice their viewership/subs going down, finally? The TSR3 video with Matt has almost 50k views compared to a 20k average from the last half-dozen videos they've put out.

And the Q&A video with that Martyciewiz guy just third wheeling it sitting in the background making faces while Ian and Matt talk is just 🤣

PRDYMTC TOUR  9.8° + UB6 / PRDYMTC  15°@16 + UB6 / MVRKTC 18° + UB8 G430 26°@25+ IZ95 / FRGD TEC5-G + MODUS115 / MD5TC / SPDR EXTC + GPS

The tsr video seemed awkward. I mean good for them if they got their differences settled. Is mac gone now? Wheres barath been?

RB left a couple months ago to go to Golf.Com, covering equipment on tour for them.  Also doing the Fully Equipped Podcast with John Wall and Kris McCormack

As mentioned above I think RB is gone. Now sure about Mac but doesnt he play mini tours or something? Not sure.

Tbh I would rather watch customer fittings if ever possible over the 'robots' hitting balls with new equipment. I want to know how and why people get put into certain clubs and what their issues were before the fitting and what the goals are, etc.

My new favorite channel is True Spec Golf for non-equipment reviews (they have a ways to go to refine their videos) but they have pros that come in and they do episodes about the pro fittings like Aaron Baddeley and Gabby Lopez who were there this year.

Example:

PRDYMTC TOUR  9.8° + UB6 / PRDYMTC  15°@16 + UB6 / MVRKTC 18° + UB8 G430 26°@25+ IZ95 / FRGD TEC5-G + MODUS115 / MD5TC / SPDR EXTC + GPS

Yea, i still think “fitting” stuff is so so. Sure its important to get lengths, sw, grips, static weight, launch conditions right. But for most, they show up one day and hit club a the best and a month later they may hit club b better. Some fitters would sell you a set based on that.

TXG used to do that.  They had Ron (the senior player), originally Sam (the high handicap), and a few other mid-low players on there.  From my understanding is 1) the videos took exponentially long to shoot because people would be camera shy, have bad swings that resulted in Ian having to give them a lesson for 3hrs before they could hit a halfway respectable ball, and so on, and 2) they took some flak because the high SS guys couldn't relate and got angry and then the loft police and armchair tour van fitters would show up in the comments talking about how X, Y, and Z should have been done instead, etc.

When it comes to the internet, nobody wins unfortunately.  I think they have a good format now, no matter who is the co-host, to illustrate what they do best: testing equipment to highlight who that might benefit the most.

Love seeing Matt and Ian back together, though there did seem to be some tension in the TSr video. Hopefully we see more of them and their friendship really comes through again. TXG’s best days were with Matt and Ian.

They were cheeky with Dirty Dog coming back. Got me for sure!  Even the intro is the old one (wondering if that is a Matty production piece given his skill set and background).

People need to stop being so critical. Its hard enough to hit consistent shots by yourself let alone during a fitting or in front of a camera.

Matt has been very transparent about his struggles with a & d and has taken a lot of time off. His SS is slower to boot and he's hitting. Now right below WRX TX speeds, something I can relate more to. 😛

Friendships that last are hard to find, and they seemed like friends before so I truly hope they have mended any bumps and move forward.

I'm sure there are a lot of challenges to making videos that appeal to a cross section of golfers.  As a consumer, I would like to see a variety of players.  High handicappers, slow swingers, highly skilled golfers, high swing speed golfers, older low handicappers who still hit the ball well but have lost a lot of speed, etc, etc.  To do that, they would have to put more time and money into the channel and that might be a non-starter.

I’m fairly certain the intro is an open source track. I’ve heard it used for other non-golf YouTube videos. There was also some Italian leather sneaker company that used it for their pop-up commercial. Either it’s open source, licensed to several people, or someone stole it from someone.

Enjoyed seeing Matt back on the channel.  Don't mind any of the other guys that have come on but Matt brings a relaxed personality I enjoy.  Maybe I am biased as a fellow Lefty.

I agree and I'm not a lefty. Nothing personal against Mac Boucher, but there's not much value to me personally to watch someone with extreme shot-shaping... I can't do anything close to what he can do! I'm just an aspiring single-digit handicap.

Agreed!  Mac is definitely great on camera and super super talented.  Just his content with Ian wasn't exactly what I came to TXG for.  It's cool once and a while to watch from an entertainment standpoint, absolutely, but it's just not even close to being relatable to the way I play golf.

Welp TXG is officially just Club Champion, now.

The new Apex irons video is stripped of all TXG branding and is CC only.

The YT channel goes straight to the CC channel with no TXG branding: https://www.youtube.com/@txgxccgolf

Ian was wearing a CC jacket at the new Scotland location, as well.

If I was given a wheel barrel of money and they said 'but , you gotta change the name'. welp, here goes the new name.

I think that golf content is challenging in that its quite repetitive to begin with (except on this forum of course, never is there a duplicate thread or revisit of Blades etc...on good ole golfWRX 😛 )

Some new things are more interesting, other times its just background watching. Was the same with Matt content wise, but what we liked there was the chemistry. Mikey and Ian have a different chemistry, I like it for what it is but preferences exist and sure I prefer the Matt combo but that is not an option. Having JW on the Apex video was great, sure its biased but we like JW, just like we like Mizuno Chris etc...

Given the option of them not having any content and the content they have now, I'll take the latter. Even the last seasons of X-Files sans David was good watching compared to none at all. Plenty of examples to cite 🙂

I won't.

There are plenty of other golf YouTube options out there now that I don't have to support Club Champion in any way shape or form. Noticed the TXG channel was already rebranded and immediately unsubscribed. If I'm being honest I think they already had started coasting downhill in the last couple years but this did it for me.

The channel is on a steep decline. Who wants biased reviews and on top of that mike hitting balls?

I bet ian is counting the days until he can leave and do his own thing again.

To be fair I think most of us probably have worse swing than Mike. Nice seeing some realistic users doing testing vs robots and sticks.
