Club champion acquires TXG (merged)

If nothing was going to change, I doubt Matt would have left.  Ian was probably feeling a lot of heat due to the pandemic, because the margins are pretty small, and realized his window to grow was closed and him cashing out was best for him before that closed.

Having never been been fit by TXG, TrueSpec or CC, it seems from my view, TXG and True Spec are more similar.

It is incorrect that margins are small in golf equipment. Margins are only small if you are not selling it. haha. And you were not selling it because have been forcibly closed for 2 years but still have all the overhead.

I am totally speculating on the reason for sale, but this makes complete sense in my mind.

I would guess that CC maybe offered Matt a salaried position (marketing/content and likely not many $ attached) but he feels that he can do better, and with freedom in his own direction, out on his own. As I understand it, he was never truly a "TXG employee" and has always had other projects going during his time with TXG. Signing on officially with CC would likely prevent him from pursuing everything outside that.

At heart I think he is more entrepreneur than "company guy".

Another golf forum type place, Not the one that must not be named.  Has Hacker in the name.  Not wanting to push my luck naming other golf forum places.

Amazing how this other forum is pushing how great this is and how amazing CC is when most have had suboptimal experiences. I’ve seen too many golfers at my club who paid far too much money for a club from CC only for their game to remain terrible to trust CC.

I mentioned to a friend a bit ago, that this reminds me of Toulon being bought by Callaway.

Sean had a very boutique and unique product that wasn't known by the masses, but was high quality and had a loyal following.   Then a big dog took notice, offered a price and resources he couldn't refuse and bought them up.  Now Sean has maintained a lot of control over Toulon and still has the name on the line.  But the feel and vibe have changed.

I'm sure CC will have a large voice in what happens with TXG but I would hate to see Ian lose the personal connection he has with much of his audiecne.  of course some of that is already lost with the departure of Matt.

CC is a big paid advertiser of the site, so not surprising.  TXG got little mention if any at all from them before.

What do any of those things have to do with their content and insight?

i think most are upset in seeing Matty go and the potential of TXG turning into the same faceless, non-consumer friendly outlet as CC.

You said they were legit and everyone else was pretending. I disagreed with that statement. Also, I am not a fan of Club Champions business practice and method. I think they gouge their customers. But, Matt was technically never part of TXG. He was part of the youtube channel. So his departure is not necessarily a surprise either. Is there really a way for that to continue without him becoming an employee of some kind? I dont really think so.

That makes a lot of sense why they’re pushing so hard.

I am guessing TXG margins are very high. I know Ian's fitting fee is astronomical (hundreds per hour).

With Matt leaving, this very much smells like Ian sold out.

I am kind of catching that vibe as well. But honestly he may have been in a position that he had no choice. The bank, and loans, and rent contracts all looming down on him for debt. I am guessing he has lots of it. TXG has only been open for 7 years and they had just opened a second location. I am guessing he was very cash strapped.

You credited the fee towards your purchase. You had to spend $1,000 an hour for him to fit you. $4000 minimum for full bag

I don't blame TXG at all.  The business of fitting high end golf clubs for in a super fancy facility is a niche business at best, and an impending bankruptcy at worst.  What separated them was their video content, which I think helped pay the bills.

Win win for both sides.  Club champion doesn't have to invest in the content side.  TXG gets financial stability.

Too bad about Matty.  I wonder what happened.  He seems to have announced his free agency.  Best to him.

Legit in what sense? Two small reginal locations. vs. club champion with lots of locations, tour staff and big time social media ambassadors. I think TXG is the pretender here if you go off real numbers and not just a youtube channel. TXG content was really good. But lets try to keep things in perspective.

CC is way overpriced for what you get. There is always an agenda to push products/services with higher margins.

TXG content is real and informative.

I’ve been to CC and wish I could go to TXG.

I spent 25 years in the business so I’ve seen a lot.
