Southwest/Southeast Michigan Golf Trip Suggestions

We have an Indiana foursome that goes different places every year and plays golf for five days, 36 holes a day. We have been to Boyne in past years but would like something a little closer. 
We prefer to stay in a cabin or a condo and play courses within a half hour or so from where we’re staying.
Does anyone have any advice on a stay and play destination in southwest or southeast Michigan?

Also, is there a company or individual that you would talk to to plan this trip?
Our trip is usually the last week of June or one of the first couple of weeks in July.

Check out the DeVries courses, all near Grand Rapids and recently featured on NLU's most recent Tourist Sauce season, if you're looking for a good value trip in the Southwest part of the state. I've personally played Diamond Springs and can attest to it's fantastic layout and value - and The Mines and Pilgrim's Run are on my short list for in-state courses to play this upcoming summer. If you're willing to drive another hour north, you could also check out American Dunes, Ludington/Manistee area courses, Tullymore/St Ives while on that side of the state.

 

Gull Lake is also in play in that area, though I found Stoatin Brae rather boring at times when I played last summer, and the shops/practice facilities leave something to be desired. The other Gull Lake courses are all decent.

If you want Condo/Houses, then GLV would be best option in Southwest Michigan.  They have cottages and 6 courses.

 

I believe Island Hills also has villas that are nice.

 

I am not sure on Harbor Shores or Hawks Heads lodging options.

 

GR recommendation is good, but courses are more spread out vs Boyne or another resort.

Hawkshead has a hotel on site right next to the pro shop and clubhouse and Harbor Shore is a half hour South back down 196. Both courses are right off the highway. Beeches Golf Club is also 10 minutes from Hawkshead. It’s not on the same conditioning level as the others but it’s a fun course. Some of the greens are comical in the way they undulate. 
The Medalist is outstanding as well. It’s near Battle Creek in Marshall, MI. Last year a friend of mine and I played Hawkshead and Beeches on day one, stayed in Battle Creek, and played The Medalist and Angel’s Crossing on day two.

American Dunes (played it previously before the renovation)

Mines

Diamond Springs

Stotin Brae

 

Possibly Pilgrims Run as well.

Harbor Shores has a hotel on site.  You're probably a half hour or so to some of the Kalamazoo courses.  You're also near Lake Michigan Hills which is a fun course that used to host the Western AM.

Hawks Head has cottages also. Stayed there last summer. They are very cool. 4 rooms with 2 beds and private showers in each room. Can sleep 8 no problem. We did HawksHead(2x), Harbor Shores, American Dunes and Stoatin Brae.

I've played Hawkshead a few times but never noticed the lodging.  Will have to look for that next time.  It's a solid course.

 

I really did not like the Beeches.  If I were staying at Hawkshead I'd make the drive to play Harbor Shores, Ravines or Lake Michigan Hills instead.  Or DIamond Springs.  Heck, I'd play Clearbrook over Beeches.

If people haven't played Diamond Springs they should check it out. It's a really good layout with one-cut rough, which I haven't (purposefully) seen anywhere else. Everything is cut the same length so there isn't really any rough to speak of unless people go way, way right or left. The green complexes are very cool and DeVries used a ravine well. Basically, one gulley plays into a bunch of holes on the back. The course is missing a combo tee since the options are either a shade over 6000 yards or around 6800 yards but I found the 6800 option very playable and I'm not a huge hitter.
