So, we’ve all gotten used to seeing drone photos with crazy perspectives. But I’m fairly certainly these are taken from literal tee boxes, so all these are actual elevation changes. There were multiple tee shots I was fighting the vertigo. Or more concerned about not plunging off the cliff and less concerned with where my ball was going.

Yes, all of those photos were taken by me, standing on the various teeing grounds and fairways.

PS -  I think a "literal" tee box would be a box that they put broken tees in. 😆

I say play whatever course you can get the best deal on, always seem to find one. I've played the following in that area over the past 5 years:

- Wolf Creek - $95 in September - had a blast and would play again in a second

- Falcon Ridge - $25-30(afternoon in september) - would like to play it again when I'm not close to passing out from the heat

- Sand Hollow - $80 while staying at the resort (back 9 was unlike anything I've seen prior or since)

- Coyote Springs - $80, really good course with a cool middle of nowhere vibe

- Reflection Bay - $75, my favorite Nicklaus course I've played

- Bali Hai - $90, would play every time I'm there for this price. Convenience and party atmosphere appealed to me, also really liked the indonesia feel and thougth the par 3s were all really good

- Wynn - $375, loved the experience and course was incredible. Wouldn't pay to play it again though, one time thing for me

- Revere Golf Club - Concord - $50-60, did nothing for me, wouldn't play it again for free. View from clubhouse was spectacular however

- The Legacy Golf Club - About $40-50, also did nothing for me. A lot of hosues around the course

- Las Vegas Golf Center Par 3 Course - $20, fun little course to hit up right off the plane with views of the strip. You get what you pay for

- TPC Las Vegas - Friend was the head pro so played it for free, really nice desert course in pristine condition. I'd probably pay $100ish to play here

This is a great list.  Sounds like you paid a lot of summer rates.  Nothing decent is under $120 and average is $200-450 in Feb for some reason.

I cant remember who did the series, I think it was Mark Crossfield. He did a two or three part YT vlog from Wolf Creek that someone had sent me - will show you pretty much the whole course if you are interested.

Always enjoy the picks @sabram.  Any idea what the issue was with the greens at Wolf creek?  In one set of photos many look like green candy canes.

I have played a few rounds in Vegas at various courses. I have played at Angel park, Stallion Mountain, All 3 at Paiute, Reflection Bay, Mountain Falls (Pahrump) and Wolf Creek. I absolutely love Paiute and would suggest anyone going to Vegas to head out there and play a round or two. Wolf Creek is wild and I feel a must play one time. I would still go out there again if someone I am with hasn’t been there but I would much rather head to Paiute. Back to Vegas in May and hoping to get a quick casino win to set up a round at shadow or the Wynn.

On that visit I was told that one of the workers used the wrong chemical mix on the greens that killed most of the grass. They painted them green and they looked terrible. It's obvious which photos are from that trip. It took many months for the greens to fully recover.

Out of all the super expensive days in golf Shadow Creek remains the only experience I will pay for every time. The course is unbelievable in every aspect and the level of VIP treatment is unmatched.
The first time I went there was only one other group with a scheduled tee time for the day so me and 7 of my best friends basically had the whole place to ourselves. I could only imagine how much cooler the experience was before the surrounding area was developed (google Shadow Creek then vs now).

What is some of the VIP treatment at Shadow. $1k is is pretty pricey for golf anywhere, so I'm just curious what the whole experience is all about. I'd rather spend $1k on golf than booze or table games.

Thanks.  I lived in Scottsdale for 15 years and used to desert and Indian reservation courses so I was a bit hesitant on Pauite.  I’m headed out to Vegas with my wife who doesn’t golf but loves to drink on the cart.  Sounds like Pauite is the best bang for my buck and easiest to get to within reason.  Maybe save Cascata and WC ( which I also booked ) for a boys golf trip…

If you've never played Wolf Creek you gotta do it.....if you had already played both, you'd go back to Pauite...if that makes sense ahah. WC is something you just have to do at least once.

Is it worth the 3 hour drive with the wife who doesn’t golf and just drinks in the cart and playing solo? I have Cascata WC and Pauite booked

Limo Ride from your hotel. Private tee time with caddie. You can poke around the clubhouse and locker room all you want.  Every time I played I went as a single.  They wont pair you  up with another group (they may if you ask, but for me the solitude was awesome).  It was truly like I had a top 10 course to myself.  After teeing off I never saw another group.  I have never managed that at a top 50 course before or after.

A non player will most likely enjoy wolf creek more than most courses, as it is eye candy.  Just dont let the drinking wife drive the cart....there are some gnarly grades and drop offs.  I am firmly in the "play wolf creek" camp. Though it may be a tough pill for a non playing spouse, including the driving time.

Definitely call the hotel and see if they can arrange round trip limos or SUVs for you.

IIRC the advice given to us was that it wasnt getting there via uber that was the issue - it would be getting two or three ubers coming *back* that was the problem.

I have played all 3 Paiute courses and they are excellent.  For a real test, play The Wolf from the tips on a windy day (then again, it is always windy @ Paiute).  Perfect conditioning and a pleasure to play no matter which of the 3 you choose.

You played the Wolf from the tips as a 10 hdcp? It's 7600 yds. I mean, hole 7 is like a 500 yd par 4 that plays uphill. That can't be fun.

It's more or less like the experience of you owning your own course. Someone else already mentioned the limo ride and etc., but the general summary is that they basically treat you like you're the only one out there.

WC really isn't a difficult course.  Most holes dont play exclusively uphill or downhill.  Often it will be a downhill drive with an uphill second shot.  I think you may be a bit confused.  As I recall #7 is a super short par 4, with a second shot over water.  I believe I hit iron off the tee for a sand wedge over water into the green.  WC does not play long IMO

Wolf creek isn’t fun for “real” golf.  Paiute and ReflectionsBay are the go to though I don’t know how RB conditions are lately(haven’t been in 4-5 years). Not a fan of golf in Vegas. St.George and mesquite have higher quality/value.  SC is ok but not at that price tag.  Seems like there’s a big liking for it here. Just never did it for me.  Rather play cascata or privates in Vegas for that amount though most privates are way cheaper.

I havent been to Vegas in a couple of years, but Bear's Best for a twilight rate of $50ish was the best value I had out there.

Im in the PRO Bali Hai - ONLY to play it once and IF you can get a deal.  Its not a bad course and the convenience is worth it.

If Las Vegas National is still open, that would be a cheaper/relatively close to the strip option... The course is a pitch and put and nothing fancy/great at all, but has a ton of history there and cool to say you played where Tiger won his first event... (https://lasvegasnational.com/history/)

Paiute is my favorite out there of the lot (I have not played Shadow Creek), especially for what you get.

Yep, I was referring to Pauite Resort's Wolf course. It tips out at 7,600 yds, is rated like 75/145 and the wind is often whipping. Far be it for me to tell people how they should spend their time or money but playing that course from that far back is masochism.

I'm really surprised nobody's mentioned Boulder Creek in the list of top Las Vegas area courses.  It's in Boulder City, across the highway from Cascata, about 25 minutes from the Strip.  I think rates this time of year are $120 in the morning, $70 in the afternoon.  Of the Vegas courses I've played, I'd probably give the edge to the Pauite courses and Coyote Springs, but Boulder Creek is a bit of a hidden gem in the area that gets very little discussion.

Man Coyote Springs was a tough grade for me. Its in the middle of nowhere - which is cool. And the practice range was an A+. Cool scenery around the palce.

But man the rest is...something. Its built on a defunct housing project/larger scale development - which you can see on their model in the clubhouse. So the rest of the infrastructure is really, really lacking.

I joked with my brother that most of the reviews I read talked about how much the carts sucked - and you need them since there are some long drives. I brushed it off - and naturally our first cart died in the parking lot. Second one had absolutely slick/bald tires and was a handful. Carts seemed...20 years old.

The clubhouse and "snack bar" seemed more like they belonged at a $20 muni. They are basically in glorified temp trailers. They've never bothered - or had the money - to build out permanent structures. Its very, very weird.

Just a weird place. I think I liked the course but everything else seemed really odd.

Yeah summer rates or golfnow/tee off coupon deals.

WC/Falcon Ridge was in September

Sand Hollow in June

Coyote Springs in March(it may have been closer to $100 but it's been a while)

Reflection Bay in March(golfnow deal)

Bali Hai in April(TeeOff App Deal)

Wynn in September

Revere in March(GolfNow)

I usually scour the sites pretty heavily leading up to my trips to get the most bang for my buck.  The Wynn was an outlier but I figured it was priced well compared to the rack rate and decided to splurge.  Buried that charge on my credit card statement so the wife didn't find it 😁

I did!  I hit the ball a long ways, but my short game often fails me.

Some holes were really tough - #18 I believe was 500 yards as well, uphill and into the wind.  Hit driver, 3 wood and had to chip on...

The next day played from the BLACK tees @ 7K yards 😀
