Mitsubishi MMT putter shaft - 2022 American Express

Anyone able to get their hands on one of these yet?  I have to say, the price is really attractive.  Really interested to hear how it stacks up against something like the LAGP or Stability Tour.  I spent some time with the Stability last year and enjoyed it well enough.  I didn't notice a huge performance increase necessarily.  But, I do not track all of my stats religiously.  It did help soften the feel at impact which let me play a firmer ball.

Just had this installed in my Mizuno MP-A306 putter, replacing the stock nippon steel shaft.

Can't say much for actual performance difference, as that would require stat tracking over a long time.

But the feel is much much better with the MMT. Massive difference.

The extra weight also seems to help with tempo and distance control.

Did you change headweight at all or just let the shaft weight go up? I'm working on a new custom build with a SC Squareback 2 head I'm getting refinished in matte black and since all of the KBS shafts I'd normally go to are unobtainable I'm exploring other options and the price point on these is attractive (compared to LAGP and BGT at least).

Straight in no adjustment. There's no adjustable weights in my putter and I didn't want to bother with tip weights.

The grip weight has probably changed a bit as well, I'm guessing the new grip is slightly heavier.

So, I am circling back on some graphite putter shafts.  I have tried the Stability Tour and didn't really notice much of a performance difference.  I was thinking of trying the LAGP but @ $410 I am a lot more interested in something like the MMT Concept.  Has anyone had a chance to give it a try yet?  Torque is at 1.6 which should be a little tighter than the LAGP but not quite as tight as the Stability?  I wouldn't be opposed to it making impact feel a little softer.  Also, swing weight is kind of important.  I don't want a really heavy handle, I like the weight to feel like it's down by the head.

I've been gaming a MMT in my putter (SC Squareback 2) for a little over a month now and I'm really happy with the choice to go for it.

Hard to express exactly how it is compared to a standard steel shaft, but I'd say maybe it feels the slightest bit lighter and firmer? The biggest thing is how much I feel like it removes the "noise" from the putter feedback. It isn't that it makes the feedback stronger or weaker exactly, but that it almost amplifies the feedback good and bad (so I feel more specifically and stronger the bad, but also feels even more pure and softer on the good?).

For me it is the first non-steel putter shaft I've ever used for a material amount of time (I've tried an LAGP and Stability in a studio before but never played a round (or rounds) with them) and I have to say I like it. Certainly the much better price compared to other premium non-steel options made it easier to take the leap and try it and I'm glad I did. Perhaps more "evolutionary" than "revolutionary" but I like it all the same.

Great feedback, thanks!  Lighter swing weight essentially?  What grip do you have on your putter?

I think the shaft is a little lighter so total weight goes down a little but swing weight goes up a little? I can never get that right...

I have a GP Pro Only Green Star Cord on it.

Sweet!  I think this is the route I go before I get crazy and drop $400 on a putter shaft that I am not even sure I would benefit from haha.

Cool, let us know what you think once you do it! Since it is just a graphite shaft without many options (other than tip size) make sure you shop around as well. I found the best price (by far) on Amazon of all places.

Have two of these shafts installed in a couple of my putters.  They are heavy firm shafts.   Much heavier than the 135 LAGolf shafts even though they are also 135.

I do like them but they certainly make the overall weight higher.

They are also the firmest graphite shafts I've ever cut through with my rod saw while cutting to length.

This bad boy just showed up today.  Interesting.  I have MMT 125TX shafts in my irons and wedges.  The metal mesh isn't quite as far on the outside of the graphite wall as the putter shaft is.  Can also see how it runs the entire length of the shaft.  Definitely thick.  Hopefully my angle grinder can get through it haha.  It is definitely a heavy shaft too.  Excited to give it a try.  Will post an update as soon as I can spend some time with it.

Taking this out for its maiden voyage tonight. After some carpet rolling I can feel that it definitely made my putter feel even softer at impact. Feels amazing.

I played 9 holes Thursday. But it rained the entire time. So greens were soft and I didn’t spend a ton of time on them. Basically went from under the umbreto hit the ball then right back under the umbrella. I should be playing tomorrow evening ok my home course. Should get a good idea then.

To be honest, I’m not expecting a night and day difference in performance. I didn’t notice a change with the stability shaft. If you’re not missing the center of the putter then the twisting and stability shouldn’t really come into play is my thought. To really quantify the true benefits I think a guy would really need to get granular with analyzing data over an extended period of time.

So, a few weeks into my MMT putter shaft experience.  So far, I am liking it.  I honestly cannot say that it's improving my putting however.  I do like the balance and it has softened impact a touch.  My lag putting has been pretty good and maybe the shaft has something to do with it?  I don't know.  The nice thing is, with the MMT Concept shaft, experimenting with graphite is a lot more affordable than it was before.

I put a Superstroke grip on it and it definitely made it feel a lot heavier than I was expecting.  The swing weight must be pretty high on it.  I kind of like that personally though.  I was going to mess around with the counterbalance weight to see how that would feel.  Went to the shop and picked up the weight for $10.  Unscrew the cap only to find that the shaft wall is too thick.  The weight will not insert.

What if you cut the black cushioning off the weight so it's just the metal...would it fit then?  I have 2 putters with the MMT installed and I'm still not sure that I fully like it.  It's a heavy shaft and really ups the weight of the overall putter.  I don't find that it softens anything personally.  I think a lot of it has to do with what ball you use as well as the milling depth of the putter.

Yeah, the foam part started getting pushed up when I initially started trying to insert the weight.  So, took the foam off and even still, the metal rod won't fit.  I find the putter to feel a bit softer to me compared to how my putter felt leading up to the change.  Not like it's a giant difference.  Just a little more muted feeling.

Just installed one of these on my Jet Set Newport. Feels less harsh on hits off center and slightly softer on the sweet spot. It’s a thick graphite shaft but feels pretty light installed. Rolls nice on the mat, hope to get it on the course tomorrow. Also ordered from Amazon for about $100 after wait listing on the kbs for awhile. Installed logo down so no noise in the line of site.

Did you have any issues installing the shaft on your jet set? I ordered the .355 for my jet set, but the shop just called and said it won't fit. I asked them to measure the tip of the MMT and they confirmed it is .355 but they are still saying that it won't fit. Did you have to strip the paint off or grind the tip down in order to get it to fit inside your jet set? Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I had no issues with the .355 fitting in the Jet Set Newport.  I slightly sanded the bottom of the shaft just to give the epoxy something to adhere to, but nothing that would have significantly reduced the diameter. It fit right in, no problem.  Strange that yours would not.  What model Jet Set do you have?  I wouldn't expect the different models to have different shaft diameters but you never know.
