Best Club Fitter in Michigan?

BG5

Recommended Posts

I want to do an entire club fitting and am curious about suggestions that everyone has.  I have done a club fitting many years ago but it was with a ping rep and not even sure it was a club fitting.

Bottom line I will be buying a new set of clubs and want to be fit properly and will pay whatever I need to in order to.

I am also willing to drive anywhere in the state even if that means multiple trips.

I prefer ping clubs so I am not sure if that makes a difference.

Any feedback would be helpful

Miles of Golf or Carls are the best options.  I prefer Miles as they are closer to us and I have had great experiences every time I have been fit.

If you are doing a full bag fitting, you might want to do it in two sessions on two different days.  You would be amazed at how tired you will be after a fitting.

Also, make sure your swing is relatively decent shape before a fitting to ensure consistent strikes.

Thanks for the info.....those two are names that were on the top of my list.  I am probably gonna go through some lessons first and try to get a swing that I can work with for the remainder of my life so I might wait a season on club fittings as you make a great point about your swing.

I am thinking about doing some lessons with Jason Guss as he is always rated at one of the best in Michigan and last I new he was at Eagle Eye which is not a terrible drive from Portage.

Bottom line I want to get better and I know working on my swing and having the right equipment will hopefully get me there.  Additionally, I am getting older and its just fun to mess around with golf stuff 🙂

My bag is in really good shape with the exception of maybe changing out my hybrid (5 years old) and my driver shaft.

I had an AD-BB in my driver and it was awesome, but then it broke and I switched to a AD-XC which is supposed to be the newer version of it, but I do not like it nearly as much as the BB in terms of feel and performance.

Miles of Golf x 100

also big points for honesty - I spent almost 2 hours trying out new iron/shaft combos.

End of the day the fitter was like - we really aren’t getting anything better than what you’re playing now, I’m not gonna try to sell you on something if it’s not going to help.

And didn’t charge me for the fitting.

This is why I always choose miles, Carls will sometimes try to sell you something whether it is an improvement or not.

I had the opposite experience last summer at Carl's. I was already spending quite a bit of money on irons and a 3 wood, which might have skewed my experience. I wanted to check out my driver shaft while I was there. Probably tried 15 different shaft combos with my Sim Max head. Nothing was better than what I had and the fitter told me what I had wasn't worth maybe a 1-2 yard improvement at best with something else. Same thing with my 10+ year old hybrids. They gapped perfectly with my new irons and we actually pulled a 4 iron from my bag that no longer made sense. They did still charge me for the fitting, but I was paying for their time regardless, so I would have been ok with it.

I will never say they all do that, but it has happened to me twice there and never at miles. For me I found great fitters at miles and I just won't go anywhere else now.

Granted I personally know the fitters I have used at Carl's but I have went there on a mission to buy a driver or irons and after the fitting didn't because they were honest and said my current equipment was working as good as anything new. Not saying they all are like that but in my experience I have never been pressure sold at Carl's during a fitting or in general.

Guy I have worked with for a couple of years now at Miles is the same way. They are good people and pretty transparent and honest.
